City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville and Austin Peay State University are partnering to open a Clarksville BCycle station on campus and offer currently enrolled APSU students free annual bike-share memberships.

Thanks to an award-winning “Great Green Idea” by former SGA President Frank Burns, the support of the Student Government Association and the Sustainable Campus Fee Committee, a new station with 10 BCycles has been installed at the Foy Recreation Center.

Gleaming new BCycles, customized with special APSU graphics, stand ready for use at the new Clarksville BCycle station near APSU’s Foy Recreation Center. The station will be dedicated Thursday.

The station and highly recognizable bikes were paid for by the APSU Sustainability fee and will be maintained and operated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and APSU President Alisa White will cut the ribbon on the new station at 11:30am Thursday, August 30th, 2018 at the Foy Recreation Center. The public is invited and encouraged to take a test ride on a new APSU BCycle.

“This station will offer transportation and healthy recreation options, and also will connect Austin Peay students with our downtown, parks and greenways,” Mayor Kim McMillan said. “We hope this will be the first of many BCycle stations on campus.“

City of Clarksville - Austin Peay State University BCycle The free student membership can be used at the City’s other BCycle stations at Liberty Park, Cumberland Riverwalk, Downtown at Public Square and the Clarksville Greenway’s Pollard Road Trailhead. The membership also can be used in other BCycle cities, like Nashville.

“This is a wonderful step forward toward the University’s strategic goals for sustainability,” President White said. “In addition, the BCycle station provides access to additional forms of recreation and entertainment, especially in the historic downtown area, which also brings enhanced economic impact to area businesses. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the city on this project, and I am confident the bicycles will be enjoyed by our students.”
