Planters BankClarksville, TN – Gwendolyn Rodriguez loves to paint pictures that tell a story of a person or a time and place. Her paintings, showing a sample of her diverse interests and places around the world, will be on display at the Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery Thursday, November 7th – Wednesday, December 4th.

Although born in San Antonio, Texas, Rodriguez spent most of her childhood in Middle Tennessee. At 18, she experienced life as an exchange student in Germany, where she developed a passion for travel and languages.

She pursued art at the Columbus College of Art and Design and then later finished her BFA in art education at Austin Peay State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. For many years she taught art and Spanish at several Fort Campbell schools, then continued teaching art privately to individuals and groups.

After the construction of a backyard studio in 2007, Rodriguez was able to focus on creating original pieces, as well as commissioned work. She has won numerous awards and her work has been displayed in exhibits all over the Southeast. In addition, she designed a line of T shirts for the “Meliciously Yours” brand and illustrated the children’s book, “Bird Friends I Know.”

Currently she works part-time at Swirlz in Clarksville as an art instructor and continues to paint commissions for individuals and businesses at home.

Her exhibit at Planters Bank includes scenes from Sudan, Iraq, Guatemala, as well as Tennessee landscapes and florals.

The Planters-Hilldale branch is located at 1971 Madison Street. The exhibit rotates the First Thursday of each month and is open to the public during regular bank hours: 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Thursday, and 8:30am-5:30pm, Friday.

Upcoming exhibits include photography by the Clarksville Friends of Photography opening December 5th, drawings, oil and acrylic paintings by Bob Privett opening January 2nd, and photography by Susan Liberatore opening February 6th.

Artists who are interested in exhibiting their work should contact Michelle Dickerson at 931.648.7154 or mdickerson@plantersbankonline.com.
