Winn Materials is marking a milestone this year, celebrating 20 years in business.

Following the ribbon cutting, Durrett asked them what types of things they’ve done for their certification.

Ben Walker, sales manager at Winn led the initiatives and answered. “We started out by first working with Bi-County to shred and recycle approximately 100 boxes of outdated records that had been warehoused. We have greatly reduced the amount of paper we use by managing orders online now. We conserve energy by adjusting the thermostats and powering down equipment and almost 100 percent of the water used in our process is reused. In addition, we promote no idling whenever possible. We also reuse what we can and recycle everything from paper and plastic to oil and oil filters.”

McMillan questioned whether the employees have personally adopted any of the environmental habits. The employees agreed that they were doing more at work, but that it was a bit more challenging at home. McMillan shared the importance of everyone doing what they can to make a difference for the long term benefit of community resources.
