Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – A fundraising total of $10.39 million in gifts and pledges has been reached by Austin Peay State University (APSU) for the 2019 fiscal year.

This number illustrates a 40 percent increase in the average annual fundraising amount over the last five years. The total surpasses the $9.86 million raised in 2018, making this the second-highest giving year in University history.

More than 3,000 individuals and organizations gave to various APSU programs throughout the year, which is the largest number of donors since the 2012 fiscal year.

Of these donors, more than 175 were APSU faculty and staff members.

“Without the generous support of our alumni, friends and campus community, we wouldn’t be able to provide our students with the Austin Peay experience that well prepares them for the future,” Alisa White, APSU president, said. “Their investment in students makes a significant difference every day.”

Several outstanding initiatives contributed to this achievement. GovsGive, the University’s 72-hour online giving campaign, surpassed its goal for the third consecutive year, collecting $225,000 for various colleges’ Funds of Excellence, as well as athletics and student affairs. The total impact of GovsGive is now $547,080 raised and 349 new donors recruited in just three years.

“I am proud of our advancement team for the work they have accomplished to reach this fundraising milestone,” retired Lt. Gen. Ronald Bailey, APSU vice president for external affairs said. “We appreciate all of our donors for contributing to the success of our outstanding students, faculty and staff.”

One of the University’s new initiatives created this year was the result of a transformative gift from alumna Wilma Newton (’73). Funds from that gift will be used to renovate the space that will house the William E. & Sadako S. Newton Military Family Resource Center, named in honor of Newton’s late parents.

It will be located at 426 College Street, in what was formerly the Jenkins and Wynne Lincoln car dealership. The center will provide seamless support to military-affiliated students as they apply for admission, access financial aid, select their programs of study, register for their courses, progress toward graduation and secure employment after graduation.

Throughout the year, $2.2 million in endowment funding was committed and 26 new endowments were established, including an endowed scholarship created for business students by APSU Board of Trustees member Billy Atkins and his family.

“It is certainly a pleasure for my family to create this endowment for the benefit of business and finance students at Austin Peay State University,” Atkins said. “APSU is really important to us and to this community, as it continues to provide a high quality of education to students, which helps them to prepare for their future.”
