April 7th-13th, 2019, is National Library Week, an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and communities.

Libraries are at the heart of their cities, towns, schools and campuses.

They have public spaces where people of all backgrounds can come together and connect.

Library programs encourage community members to meet to discuss social issues, work together using new technologies or collaborate on a research project or class assignment. Library staff also partner with other campus departments and organizations to actively engage with the people they serve, always striving to meet the core needs of the campus community.

“Libraries are cornerstones of democracy, promoting the free exchange of information and ideas for all,” Joe Weber, director of Library Services at APSU, said. “The Woodward Library fosters civic engagement by keeping students and other library users informed and aware of campus events and issues.”

Gov. Bill Lee has issued an official proclamation in celebration of National Library Week. The proclamation can be found at: https://tnsos.net/publications/proclamations/files/1647.pdf

The Woodward Library is celebrating National Library Week by hosting an Edible Books Contest on Wednesday, April 10th. Visit the event website for more information: https://libguides.apsu.edu/ediblebooks.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April.

For information, visit the Felix G. Woodward Library at Austin Peay State University, call 931.221.7346, or see the Library’s website at http://library.apsu.edu/.
