Austin Peay State University Students Form New National Home Builders Association (NAHB) Chapter On Campus

December 2, 2013 | Print This Post

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University students seeking degrees in construction and civil engineering technology now have an extra-circular organization on campus to help them prepare for careers in that field. Earlier this semester, a group of students formed an APSU chapter of the National Home Builders Association (NAHB).

The NAHB is a trade association, founded in 1942, that serves professionals in the housing industry. The APSU chapter hopes to work closely with the Clarksville chapter to find opportunities for networking and internships.

“This chapter is a way for construction and civil students in the engineering field at Austin Peay to get involved and kind of get to know what they’re going to be doing and what they could do,” Brittani Littlejohn, a junior engineering technology major and the APSU chapter’s president, said. “We’re trying to get our students’ feet in the door with internships.”

This new NAHB chapter is the first APSU organization to serve these students.

Ihab Habib, APSU assistant professor of construction engineering technology, is pleased that Littlejohn was named the first president.

“I’m working on my dissertation on ‘A Study of Female Students Enrollment in Engineering Technology STEM Programs,’” Habib said. “I am trying to encourage female students to enroll in male dominated fields. I would like to announce that we are proud to have a female student in STEM, leading NAHB as the first construction and civil engineering technology president in the engineering field.”

For more information on this new chapter, contact Littlejohn at blittlejohn@my.apsu.edu.
