Austin Peay State University well represented at Ohio Valley History Conference

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of History and Philosophy put on a strong showing at the annual Ohio Valley History Conference at Western Kentucky early this month with several faculty members giving presentations.

The faculty members who presented include:

  • Dan Campbell, APSU adjunct faculty, presented “Fragging in Vietnam: Media Presentation and Historical Data.”
  • Dr. Christos Frentzos, APSU associate professor of history, presented “Security and Stability Operations in the Occupied South: 1865-1877.”
  • Dr. Gregory Hammond, APSU assistant professor of history, presented “Women’s Suffrage in Peru.”
  • Dr. Sheena Harris, APSU assistant professor of history, presented “The Persuasive Discourse of Racial Uplift: Exploring the Political Activism of Margaret Murray Washington.”
  • Dr. Ellen Kanervo, APSU professor emeritus of communication, presented “All Her Life, She Quoted the Wisdom of the Colored People: African-American Influences on Dorothy Dix.”
  • Dr. George Pesely, APSU professor of history, presented “After Thucydides: The Historians of the Final Years of the Peloponnesian War.”
  • Dr. David Rands, APSU assistant professor of history, hosted a roundtable on Asian history.
  • Dr. David Snyder, APSU associate professor of history, presented “No Time for Hitler: Insubordination and Misconduct in the German 21st Flak Division, 1943-1945.”
  • Dr. Kevin Tanner, APSU assistant professor of history, presented “Revolutionary Legacies: How the American Revolution Shaped Gerrit Smith’s Abolitionism.”
  • Dr. Minoa Uffelman, APSU associate professor of history, presented “Dorothy Dix: Shaped by and Shaper of Society.”
  • Dr. Gregory Zieren, APSU professor of history, Dr. Michele Butts, APSU professor of history, and Ryan Krause, APSU student and Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society member, attended the conference.

APSU will host the 2014 Ohio Valley History Conference. Dr. Rands and Dr. Harris will organize that event.
