Carolyn Bowers, Montgomery County Mayor Melinda Shepard, Vice President of Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce joined company leadership to celebrate their certification.

When asked by Bowers about the types of things they’ve done, Steve Stafford, Sanderson’s Assistant Facilities Manager Safety and Compliance Officer explained that the facility was built in 2007 with efficiency in mind.

Some of the examples he shared was the efficient lighting, the water retention and filtration system that helps them reuse over 90 percent of the water used in their processes and the fact that they even capture the dust shavings from the pipes when they are altered. The dust is then put right back into the process to make new pipes.

More recently, they increased recycling, stopped using Styrofoam and added some energy initiatives such as adjusting thermostats when the facility is vacant.

Shepard took a moment to praise Sanderson for their green certification and also for their continued involvement in other community initiatives.

Bowers encouraged the employees to take the energy and recycling practices home. She explained the importance of keeping unnecessary items out of the landfill and asked the employees to please do what they could to keep the air quality at a satisfactory level by driving less and carpooling when possible.

Stafford also took the opportunity to share Sanderson’s safety record of 1,563 days of work without any work injuries or incidents.
