Austin Peay State University Faculty share their recent Accomplishments

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several faculty at Austin Peay State University recently announced their latest professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Stuart Bonnington, professor of psychology, recently presented a workshop, titled “The Quest for Balance: Qigong and the Healthy Helper,” for the Nashville Metropolitan Action Commission Annual Health and Wellness Conference on August 3rd.

He also presented “Qigong and the Healthy School Counselor: Healthy, Happy and Sane” as an In-service presentation for the Robertson County School Counselors on July 31st in Springfield, TN. He is currently a Qigong instructor at the Vanderbilt Center for Integrative Health.

Dr. Chinyere Ogbonna-McGruder, associate professor of public management and criminal justice, had an article, “Rethinking USA Drug Policy,” published in the Fall 2012 edition of Journal of Global Intelligence & Policy.

In addition, she and her former students, Michael Miller and Eric Martin, published “Analysis of Recidivism Rate of Magdalene Rehabilitation Program for Prostitution,” published in the same fall edition of the Journal of Global Intelligence & Policy.

Dr. Gail Robinson-Oturu, professor of music, presented a workshop/master class at the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity triennial national conference August 6th in Atlanta, GA. She was also selected to present a mini-concert that same day at the closing session. She was accompanied by distinguished composer Roland Carter.

Her picture and article, titled “Beneath the Surface – The Negro Spiritual: A Performer’s Point of View,” were featured on the front cover of the organization’s professional journal Pan Pipes in the Summer 2011 edition. Robinson-Oturu also performed August 11th in Washington, D.C., at the Washington Post Conference Center for the Family Matters of Greater Washington 2012 Legacy Luncheon.

Dr. Gregg Steinberg, professor of health and human performance, has a weekly column, titled “Head Coach,” that publishes on Sundays in The Leaf-Chronicle. His column for Sunday, September 2nd will focus on leadership and APSU.
