Clarksville’s Customs House Museum July 2015 Exhibits and Activities

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is located in historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee. Come explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science and history.

Some of the events in June at the Museum are: Clarence Cameron White, Norman Rockwell: The Man Behind the Canvas, In the Footsteps of Alvin York and Family Day.

Exhibits

Clarence Cameron White
June 1st – July 31st

Clarence Cameron White was an African-American music composer and violinist born in Clarksville, TN in 1880. This exhibit in our lobby features various artifacts from his life.

Norman Rockwell: The Man Behind the Canvas
Through August 23rd

This exhibit features original, candid photographs of America’s iconic illustrator Norman Rockwell. From the Charles and Joy Flint Collection. Exhibit sponsored in part by Clarksville Dental Center.

In the Footsteps of Alvin York

Activities:

July First Thursday Art Walk
July 2nd, 5:00pm – 8:00pm

Join us for the First Thursday Art Walk on July 2nd. The museum will be open with free admission from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

“Story Time with Ms. Sue”
July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, 11:00am – 11:20am

Join us as we learn about illustrators and their styles while listening to wonderful stories.

“Let’s Find”
July 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 31st, 11:00am – 11:30am

This activity explores exhibits through specific topics and includes a story and a craft.

Family Day – “There’s Something Fishy Going on!”
July 12th, 10:00am – 5:00pm

Stop in the Children’s Room to have your picture taken with a four-foot salmon, create your own “river monster”, find out what a paddle fish is, and see a picture of the fish that walks on land.

Children’s Room Theme: “All Along the River”
Open Daily 10:00am – 5:00pm

Get your membership’s worth: visit the museum often and enjoy activities that change during the month. Activities in July focus on life in and along the river.

“Let Me Show You Something”
Tuesdays in July, 11:00am – 11:20am
Wednesdays in July, 2:30pm – 2:50pm

Join Ms. Sue for these mini, topical tours for parents and children of all ages. Topics change weekly.

The museum will be closed Saturday, July 4th for Independence Day.

About the Customs House Museum

Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterLocated in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State’s second largest general museum.

With over 35,000 square feet of the region’s best hands-on activities and special events…people of all ages agree – the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!

The Explorer’s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice’s Attic, McGregor’s Market and kitchen, and of course – the Bubble Cave! Finally, get “all aboard” to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers “ride the rails” every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.
