Tennessee Honors Clarksville’s Roxy Regional Theatre, Charlie Cushman with “Tennessee Music Pathways” Markers

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and Visit Clarksville honored the Roxy Regional Theatre and Grammy award winning banjoist Charlie Cushman in his hometown with the unveiling of “Tennessee Music Pathways” markers.

Local and state leaders, Roxy supporters and the Cushman family gathered in two ceremonies to mark the special commemorations on Thursday, November 19th, 2020.

Clarksville Academy Students to perform “The Montgomery County Chronicles” at the Roxy Regional Theatre

Clarksville AcademyClarksville, TN – Clarksville Academy students will present two free public viewings of a new play about the history of Clarksville. “The Montgomery County Chronicles: A Tribute to History, Community, and Leadership” is a new stage play, created by Shana Thornton, local author and publisher, that is scheduled to debut at The Roxy Regional Theatre for two performances.

“The Montgomery County Chronicles: A Tribute to History, Community, and Leadership” will be performed by Clarksville Academy Students at the Roxy Regional Theatre on May 3rd and May 5th.

Get to Know Clarence Cameron White at the Customs House Museum Event

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum is hosting a lecture on Clarence Cameron White by Gail Robinson Oturu on Thursday, July 16th. The event takes place at 12:15pm as part of the museum’s monthly Art & Lunch programs. This lecture is free to the public.

The lecture will share some of Clarence Cameron White’s thoughts, writings, letters, and interesting information about his Tennessee and family connection, early musical experiences, challenges in pursuing his career, and his visits to Clarksville for performances.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In the late 1880s, at the age of 8, Clarence Cameron White began studying violin. The Clarksville native then became a musical prodigy in his own right within four years, studying with accomplished violinist Will Marion Cook and attending Oberlin Conservatory at the age of 16.

The nature of White’s compositions changed over time. An Austin Peay State University music professor will share her research on White’s musical repertoire as the next presenter in the University’s esteemed Provost Lecture Series.
