USAA achieves Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification

Montgomery County, TN – The USAA Financial Center in Clarksville is the latest organization to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified.

Chamber of Commerce Director Melinda Shepard, Military Affairs Coordinator Yvonne Pickerling, Clarksville Chief of Staff Bill Harpel and Montgomery County Public Information Officer Elizabeth Black attended their green ribbon cutting to congratulate USAA on earning their certification.

Gayle Harvey, USAA manager at the financial center, explained some of the things they had done to earn certification, “We have occupancy sensors in all of our rooms, we adjust thermostats after hours, power down all of equipment and had our windows tinted for energy efficiency. Also, we now use more environmentally friendly product for cups and plates and we recycle paper and plastic.”

Harvey added that it was part of the USAA culture to promote sustainability in all financial service branches. “We promote online documentation and transactions to reduce the amount of paper used. “A significant amount of financial transactions can now be done on a mobile device and a large percentage of our local customers take advantage of it.”

Harpel asked Harvey if she felt the employees were making a greater impact by taking some of the sustainability practices home and she replied with confidence that they were.
