Verber earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 2010. His research explores the relationship between Europeans and non-Europeans after 1945 and the intersection of decolonization with the Cold War, with a particular focus on Germans and the two postwar German states.

With the support of the APSU Summer Research Fellows Program, Verber traveled to Germany and France last summer to continue work on German involvement in European colonies after World War II, especially the service of Germans in the French Foreign Legion.

A number of articles based on this and related research will be appearing in forthcoming volumes in the United States and Europe. Verber teaches courses on European and African history and also serves as faculty adviser to the APSU History Club.

Sessions of the Provost Lecture Series also can be viewed in real time via online streaming . The sessions also are recorded and can be viewed later on APSU’s iTunes public site .

Other sessions in the Provost Lecture Series also are planned for the academic year. All sessions are from 3:00pm-4:30pm in the MUC, Room 303.

The Provost Lecture Series seeks to foster a spirit of intellectual and scholarly inquiry among faculty, staff and students. The program will be used as a platform for APSU faculty members who are recent recipients of provost summer grants, who have been awarded faculty development leaves and who have engaged in recent scholarly inquiry during sabbatical leaves.
