APSU student Eva Grebe to present research in Washington, D.C.

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this year, some 800 college students from across the country submitted proposals to present their research at the annual Council on Undergraduate Research’s Posters on the Hill Convention in Washington, D.C.

That organization, which was founded in 1978 to promote high-quality undergraduate scholarship, accepted only 60 applicants.

Eva Grebe, an Austin Peay State University biology student, was one of the select few to receive a congratulatory email earlier this month, inviting her to present her research at the event.

Grebe will showcase her work, “Quantitative Microscopic Analysis of Scale Morphology in North American Darters (Percidae: Etheostomatinae),” which she did under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Johansen, APSU associate professor of biology, and Dr. Sarah Schiller, APSU professor of biology.

Grebe, a research assistant for the APSU Center of Excellence for Field Biology, will attend the Posters on the Hill Convention on April 24th thanks to funding provided by both the APSU Office of Undergraduate Research and the APSU Department of Biology.

Four APSU geosciences students – Maurice Testa, Patrick Robbins, James Martin and Eric Whittaker – all received an award of honorable mention for their submissions to the conference.

“This is a very significant accomplishment for the students and just one more example of the wonderful undergraduate research being performed at APSU,” Dr. Christopher Gentry, director of the APSU Office of Undergraduate Research, said.
