Clarksville Fire Rescue Offers Free Home Screenings

December 1, 2011 | Print This Post

Clarksville Fire RescueClarksville, TN – Through the month of December, Clarksville Fire Rescue will offer free home screenings for city residents. These fire safety screenings will include a check of all safety equipment like smoke detectors and other alarms, making sure each family has an escape plan if a fire occurs and a general inspection for fire hazards in the home.

“This is the first time Clarksville Fire Rescue has offered this service and we’re very excited about the program,” said Clarksville Fire Marshal Ray Williams. “Most fire related deaths happen between December and February each year and most fatalities involve people over 65 and children 5 years old or younger. This program will save lives by helping Clarksville’s families be prepared.”

Home heating equipment like fireplaces, space heaters and wall heaters are the cause of many fires this time of year.

“Many people don’t realize that Tennessee is ranked second in the nation in the number of fire-related deaths. The good news is that the City of Clarksville hasn’t had a fire fatality in over five years. We want to keep our record intact,” Marshal Williams said.

“The team at Clarksville Fire Rescue does a tremendous job of keeping Clarksvillians safe. This project is just another example of their dedication and expertise. I appreciate all they do to keep us safe,” said Mayor Kim McMillan.

Clarksville city residents can arrange an inspection time by calling the Fire Prevention Office at 931.645.7462. Office hours are 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Messages left will be returned during regular office hours.

“We can’t guarantee that a fire won’t occur in a home but we can help homeowners make sure they are taking precautions. Our goal is to prevent fires and anything we can do in that regard, we will try to do,” Williams said.
