Alternative School Students get a dose of reality

Clarksville, TN – On December 19th, 2011 marked the last day of school for students of the Greenwood Alternative School and the first dose of reality for some. The LEAP Organization facilitated the acclaimed Reality Check program that was sponsored by the Clarksville Montgomery County School System.

Volunteers were asked to sit behind a table that represented different aspects of life such as banks, car dealerships, day cares, college, clothing store, grocery store, and real estate offices.

Another Step Closer for the Clarksville Marina

Clarksville, TN – Mayor Kim McMillan received notification that the Army Corps of Engineers has approved the lease agreement between the City of Clarksville and Cumberland River, LLC.

“Corps approval is a critical step in moving forward with development,” explained Mayor McMillan. “Once the City Council approved the agreement on Tuesday night, we immediately moved forward to sign and forward it to the Corps for review. To receive approval within 48 hours is a direct result of our hard work and commitment to completing this project. We are very appreciative of the wonderful working relationship we have with the Corps and their enthusiasm for the project and we look forward to working with them to bring it to completion.” [Read more]

Clarksville City Offices Holiday Schedule

Clarksville, TN – Mayor Kim McMillan is reminding everyone that the City of Clarksville offices will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 26th and 27th, 2011 for the Christmas holiday. City offices will also be closed on January 2nd, 2012 in observance of the New Year’s holiday.

Record numbers of students are wanting to attend Austin Peay State University

Clarksville, TN – Based on the increased number of applications for the 2012-13 academic year, a record number of students want to attend Austin Peay State University.

So far for the Fall 2012 semester, APSU has admitted 1,365 undergraduate students, compared with 1,127 admitted this time in 2011, which is a 21.1 percent increase.

Dr. Tristan Denley, provost and vice president of academic affairs at APSU, said the rising student interest in APSU can be attributed to many factors, including the greater number of opportunities available to them in and out of the classroom. [Read more]

Communication Tower Negotiations Compete

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government has finalized negotiations with AT&T for construction of a replacement tower on Highway Drive. The tower will house the National Weather Service (NWS) equipment, along with all county emergency backup communication equipment.

The tower will be constructed at 280 feet tall, with the upper 80 feet housing the county equipment and the NWS equipment. AT&T will be able to lease space to other occupants if they choose, but the space above 200 feet will be reserved for county and National Weather Service use only. [Read more]

Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department will begin hiring summer pool staff in the New Year

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department will begin taking applications for summer pool staff beginning January 1st, 2012.

Positions for lifeguards, cashiers, concession workers, and managers will all be hired for the 2012 summer swimming season.
