Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for September 9th through September 17th, 2015

Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.
Some of the upcoming events include: Trees, Port Royal History Hike, Eyes of the Night, Evening Hike, Port Royal Morning Hike and Blindman’s Tree Hunt.

Reconciliation Evangelistic Outreach Center Open House/Dedication set for October 9th-11th

Clarksville, TN – Reconciliation Evangelistic Outreach Center’s (R.E.O.C.) new building located at 959 Tiny Town Road is ready to open its doors.

Clarksville, TN – The economic data were mixed, but generally consistent with moderately strong growth. Unit auto sales improved in August. The ISM Manufacturing Index slowed. The Non-Manufacturing Index pulled back a bit after surging in July (still strong). The Fed’s Beige Book described growth as evenly split between “modest” and “moderate” across the 12 Fed districts.
The August employment report was mixed, but generally strong. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 173,000 (median forecast: +220,000), but with a net revision of +44,000 to June and July.

APSU, Woodward Library host exhibition on Lincoln and American Civil War

Clarksville, TN – In honor of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the Felix G. Woodward Library at Austin Peay State University is hosting an exhibition, titled “Lincoln: the Constitution and the Civil War.”
On display from September 4th through October 15th, the exhibition will celebrate its grand opening on Tuesday, September 8th at 3:00pm in the Woodward Library. APSU President Dr. Alisa White and Woodward Library Director Joe Weber will perform the ribbon cutting ceremony. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – Riverfest, presented by the City of Clarksville and Miller Lite, is pleased to announce Charles Esten of television’s hit series “Nashville” will be the featured headliner at the 2015 Festival. Charles Esten will take the main stage as the headlining event on Saturday, September 12th, 2015 at 9:00pm. The concert is free and open to the public.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Charles “Chip” Esten was raised in Alexandria, VA and attended T.C. Williams High School, made famous in the film “Remember the Titans.”

Amber Wallace Displays Mixed Media Americana at Planters Bank in September

Clarksville, TN – The Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery will feature mixed media art by Amber Wallace from Thursday, September 3rd – Wednesday, September 30th.
Amber Wallace is an artist that likes to pay homage to the past. Her work is often executed on recycled/upcycled materials such as barn wood, vintage doors and windows, abandoned drawers and cutting boards, etc. By repurposing these materials, they are given a new life and new story, thus preserving a little piece of what came before us. Her work incorporates lots of color and texture, and she draws inspiration from nature, history, and from her little girl Posey.

Riverfest to feature “Earth Explorers” Kids’ Area

Clarksville, TN – The Kids’ Area at Riverfest is the perfect place to bring kids of all ages. They’ll enjoy interactive games and exhibits, hands-on learning activities, and some giant inflatables! Everyone is sure to love the new 2015 theme: “Earth Explorers” as they explore over 20 different local vendors and cultural groups.
The Riverfest Kids’ Area is located at the North Extension of McGregor Park (behind O’Charleys) and is open Friday, September 11th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, September 12th from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Performances will take place every hour on Saturday.
Austin Peay State University ROTC cadet carries Special Olympics Torch

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this summer, Jose Ramos-Lopez, a senior cadet in Austin Peay State University’s ROTC program, found himself running with police officers through the streets of Freehold Borough, New Jersey.
Ramos-Lopez was in the northern state to participate in a Cadet Leadership Course, and he was asked to carry the Special Olympics New Jersey torch during the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which raises money for the Special Olympics.
