Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – New paintings by Terri Jordan are currently on exhibit in the Peg Harvill Gallery of the Roxy Regional Theatre. Along with the artist’s signature female form are small oil paintings of fanciful flowers and fruit, created in a soft palette of yellows, lavenders and pinks.

Included in the show are figurative pieces like The Messengers. A lone woman stands amid a canopy of pear trees, two butterflies perched on her hand. Symbolism can be found in most all of Jordan’s work.

Here the artist references the reminders and memories of loved ones who have passed.

She says of her work “While I don’t like to tell the viewer what to take in from my work, subtle symbols are used with every canvas story. I tend to work in suites, or series. The idea usually comes from a voyeuristic moment, personal experience, or my curiosities in how societies repeat or mimic each other (often) unknowingly.”

“I don’t exhibit my work as self-portraits; however, they are based in the concept of capturing not just the world around me, but also within me. They are a diary by what it is like to be a woman in contemporary culture and my interests in where we have come from – the cultural traditions that continue and morph over time,” stated Jordan.

Jordan’s figurative paintings have been exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the country. She was selected to exhibit in the exhibition 2016 Contemporary Women Artists, Chico, California and in 2015 was named in the Top Ten Portrait/figurative artists of Tennessee by the Portrait Society of America in a juried process.

In 2012, Terri was one of 25 women artists selected to participate in the National juried exhibit, titled Where Do We Go from Here? The Shape of Things to Come at the RCC Wiseman Gallery in Grants Pass, Oregon. Her works can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S.

Terri Jordan’s work will be on view through the month of April in conjunction with the Roxy Regional Theatre’s production of “Marie Antoinette”.
