The Tower Club, Austin Peay’s first private support organization, was founded in 1958 to help the school’s president fund special initiatives not provided for within the University’s annual budget. In December of that year, 80 charter members hosted a dinner meeting to kick off the new organization.

This year’s dinner, “A Night of Roundup,” paid tribute to Austin Peay alumni gatherings of the past through a menu of pork chops and fixings. The meal was prepared by a new generation of master grillers, including Wesley Golden, Price Hopson, Daniel Binkley, Bob Golden and Thomas Durrett. Live entertainment was provided by Music for Mercy, a band featuring several APSU faculty and staff members.

Dr. Jeannie Beauchamp, the outgoing volunteer chair of the Tower Club, made remarks during the event, and Charlie Koon of F&M Bank was announced as the new chair. APSU President Alisa White also made a special presentation in honor of Ben Kimbrough, an Austin Peay alumnus and charter member of the Tower Club, for his service to the University and the Clarksville community.

“We would like to thank all of the alumni and friends who attended the dinner, as well as the volunteers and staff who made the event successful,” Kris Phillips, assistant vice president for APSU University Advancement, said. “It is exciting to know that so many people are committed to the mission of the Tower Club and the future of Austin Peay.”

Tower Club membership dues go directly to the President’s Fund of Excellence, with a small portion covering the cost of the club’s annual dinner. Membership in this organization will ensure that its legacy of support continues for generations to come. To learn more or join the Tower Club, visit http://alumni.apsu/towerclub
