Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Pokémon Go, the new GPS-based augmented reality game, has brought dozens of new visitors to the Austin Peay State University campus this week, but many of these individuals are putting themselves at risk by entering closed-off construction sites.

The University has two major construction projects taking place this summer—the renovation of the Trahern Building and the construction of the new Art and Design Building.

Both sites, which are surrounded by fencing, are closed to the public, and they are considered property of the construction companies until the projects are completed.

Several individuals have entered these sites since the release of the Pokémon Go app earlier this week, not realizing they were trespassing on private property. These are active construction sites, and individuals are risking serious injury by entering these prohibited areas.

“The problem has become so pervasive in the last few days that the contractors often have to halt work or put an employee at entry points to prevent players from entering the sites,” Marc Brunner, director of University Design and Construction, said.

The APSU campus does have several other “Pokéstops” where players can check-in and collect virtual items. Individuals are welcome to explore the University through this game, but campus police will be notified if anyone enters a prohibited construction zone.
