The event was a part of the MAA Southeastern Section meeting, held March 25th-26th on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

APSU’s team was mentored by associate professor of mathematics, Dr. Ben Ntatin and assistant professor of mathematics, Dr. Nicholas Kirby and consisted of Thomas Clayborn, Scott Howard, Anthony Thai and Paul Watkins.

APSU excelled in the first and second rounds of the competition, outscoring universities from Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The four-person team performed well in the four-team finals, although they ultimately fell behind on the final Jeopardy question to eventual winner Augusta University.

2016 was the latest in a string of strong performances for APSU at the event, including a first-place finish in 2015 and a second-place finish in 2014.

“(The students) represented Austin Peay very well as a team, and continued what is now a tradition of high achievement in this competition,” Kirby said.
