APSU students Jeffry Coward and Charles Drury won the first prize in the engineering and engineering technology presentations section, with their paper, “A study comparing concrete vs. wood structure in residential construction.” They worked with Dr. Ihab Habib, APSU associate professor of engineering technology.

“It is with great pride and pleasure that I inform the public that the engineering technology department at Austin Peay State University had three major award winners at the Tennessee Academy of Science annual conference in November 2015,” John Byrd, chair of the APSU engineering technology department, said. “Ms. Nicole won the poster award and Mr. Coward and Mr. Drury won the award for the best Engineering Technology presentation. This is a great honor for both the students and APSU. I feel confident that these three students will proceed forward with great success and leave a lasting mark in their fields of expertise.”

The APSU Department of Engineering Technology offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Engineering Technology, including Associate of Applied Science degrees in automotive, construction, electronics and mechatronics concentrations.

The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in automotive, construction, electrical, manufacturing, mechanical and mechatronics concentrations, as well as a Master of Science degree in engineering technology. The associate degree in automotive, construction and electronics and the bachelor’s degree in automotive, construction, electrical and manufacturing engineering technology are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology.

Located at the APSU Center at Fort Campbell, the department offers courses for both the APSU main campus and the Fort Campbell campus. The department offers both daytime and evening courses to accommodate students who work while attending Austin Peay. Students are encouraged to participate in internships or other industrial job opportunities so they can get practical experience while completing their degrees.

The engineering technology department motivates students to think creatively, to acquire analytical and technical skills, and to excel through its excellent teaching and service in an innovative learning environment. It is the department’s tradition to have faculty and students involved in professional meetings, such as the Tennessee Academy of Science meeting, to engage with the latest scientific research and technologies, and also present their innovative research and projects.
