Collector Dr. John Olson Talks Flags This February at the Customs House Museum

Clarksville, TN – On Sunday, February 28th, collector Dr. John Olson will be giving a gallery talk at the Customs House Museum. His discussion will cover his extensive collection of American flags, political banners, and other memorabilia found in the exhibit Of Stars & Stripes: From the Collection of Dr. John Olson.

Dr. Olson’s presentation will begin at 3:00pm in the Orgain gallery.

This event is free with paid museum admission or museum membership.

Join the discussion as he gives insight into objects that tell a visual tale of our states. Objects include original pre-Civil War flags, reproductions from the Colonial era, and more. Also on display is a 34 Star Parade Flag made of silk; this flag was reportedly flown at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery on November 19th, 1863.

John R. Olson, MD is a practicing Clinical Pathologist in Columbia, TN. Dr. Olson graduated from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 1965 and has been in practice for 50 years.

Of Stars & Stripes is on display in the Crouch, Bruner and Orgain galleries now through February 28th.

About the Customs House Museum

Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State’s second largest general museum. The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Incorporating a number of architectural styles, the original structure is one of the most photographed buildings in the region.

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.
