Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, November 9th, 2013, Serenity House Women’s Shelter, Inc. is sponsoring the 1st Annual Operation Warm-Up at the Evangelic Temple Church of God in Christ Fellowship Hall.
As the winter months approach us, our hearts and minds turn to those in our community who may be less fortunate; those who spend their days on the streets, and if there is space, their nights in a shelter.
APSU’s Hispanic Cultural Center hosting Day of the Dead events October 28th through November 1st
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Hispanic Cultural Center will host the Govs Cherish and Share: 2013 Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos Art Exhibit from October 28th-November 1st in the Morgan University Center’s Third Floor Gallery.

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, October 26th, the 5th Annual Fright on Franklin, presented by The City of Clarksville and Altra Federal Credit Union will take place beginning at 3:00pm in Downtown Clarksville.
This free, family friendly and award winning event is for adults and kids of all ages and will feature safe trick-or-treating, a hayride, costume contests, and much more!
Clarksville New Providence Community Policing Center to hold Trunk-or-Treat Sunday, October 27th
Clarksville, TN – On Sunday, October 27th, the New Providence Community Policing Center is holding the Trunk-or-Treat Event starting at 2:00pm. Dress up in your costume and join them for candy and fun!
The event will be held at Byrns Darden Elementary School, at 609 East Street, in Clarksville.

Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence labels restored sculpture on campus
Clarksville, TN – In June 2012, local artist Mike Andrews returned to Austin Peay State University to restore an outdoor sculpture he’d installed on campus in 1985.
The piece, “Light Modulator,” was placed on a small, grassy hill outside the University’s Kimbrough Building, where it sat for almost three decades exposed to not only the sun, but also strong winds, downpours, numerous ice and snowstorms and the slow but relentless advance of moss and lichen.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Dream Chasers Group Mentoring Program Continues
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks & Recreation’s Dream Chasers Group Mentoring Program continues at the Burt-Cobb and Crow Centers! Dream Chasers is focused on helping at-risk youth, ages 13-17 in a small group atmosphere.
Small group leaders, guided by professionals, will mentor youth as they discuss dealing with negative influences that affect teens and will promote making healthy and informed decisions.
Wheelchair basketball exhibition game coming to APSU on October 28th
Clarksville, TN – The Music City Lightning, a wheelchair basketball team, will visit the Austin Peay State University Foy Fitness and Recreation Center at 7:00pm on October 28th for an exhibition basketball game.
The event, sponsored by APSU Office of Disability Services and APSU University Recreation, is free and open to the public.

Montgomery County seeks applicants for Assessor of Property vacancy
Montgomery County, TN – Following the recent resignation of Betty Burchett as Montgomery County Assessor of Property, Montgomery County Government will be seeking qualified applicants interested in filling the vacancy.

Clarksville, TN – As was widely anticipated, lawmakers reached an 11th-hour agreement on the budget and debt ceiling. The “Continuing Appropriations Act, 2014” funds the government through January 15th, suspends the debt ceiling to February 7th, and requests bipartisan House/Senate budget negotiations by December 13th.
Thus, while the deal dodges a near-term financial catastrophe, it does not remove uncertainty entirely. Lawmakers will have less than three months to agree on a new spending authorization.
