Austin Peay State University Provost Lecture Series: Art professor to present session this week

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University art professor will present the next session of the Provost Lecture Series this week at APSU.

Paul Collins, gallery director and assistant professor of art, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, April 18th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. His lecture will be about the Living Gallery Program, an experimental approach in using arts exhibition programming to engage students.

The Living Gallery Program was developed with funds from APSU’s Summer Faculty Research Program grants.

All sessions of the Provost Lecture Series are free and open to the public.

Collins has a Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College. He has a wide range of professional experience as artist, educator, curator and technologist. He has been an artist-in-residence at Skowhegan, Anderson Ranch Arts Center and the Vermont Studio Center.

Collins and has curated shows or organized artist projects for a wide range of artists including James Surls, Betty Woodman, Paul Jacobsen, Mala Iqbal, Kenny Scharf, David Humphrey, Charles Long, Michael Kreuger, Jason Rogenes, Kim Dickey, and Takashi Nakazato.

Sessions of the Provost Lecture Series also can be viewed in real time via online streaming. The sessions also are recorded and can be viewed later on APSU’s iTunes public site.

Other sessions in the Provost Lecture Series also are planned for the academic year. All sessions are from 3:000pm-4:30pm in the MUC, Room 303. To see a schedule of upcoming speakers, visit www.apsu.edu/academic-affairs/provost-series.

The Provost Lecture Series seeks to foster a spirit of intellectual and scholarly inquiry among faculty, staff and students. The program will be used as a platform for APSU faculty members who are recent recipients of provost summer grants, who have been awarded faculty development leaves and who have engaged in recent scholarly inquiry during sabbatical leaves.
