APSU Public Relations office wins awards at TCPRA

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Office of Public Relations and Marketing at Austin Peay State University won three awards during the Tennessee College Public Relations Association spring conference and awards contest held May 18th-20th at Chattanooga State Community College.

TCPRA – an alliance of communicators across the state representing public and private colleges and universities, technical schools, technology centers and community colleges – awarded gold, silver and bronze distinctions in various writing, design, publication and photography categories.

The University’s PR office captured the following awards:

  • Silver in the Feature Article/Alumni Magazine Article for “Silent Tackles,” written by Charles Booth, staff writer.
  • Silver, Electronic Newsletter for Top Hat quarterly e-newsletter sent to donors and friends of APSU, written by Charles Booth, staff writer, and Melony Shemberger, assistant director of communication, and designed by Rollow Welch, assistant director of Web and multimedia design.
  • Bronze, Feature Article/Alumni Magazine Article for “The Bat Cave,” written by Charles Booth, staff writer, and Melony Shemberger, assistant director of communication.

In addition to the awards, the conference featured discussions on topics related to public relations and marketing and higher education. Bill Persinger, executive director of APSU Public Relations and Marketing, was a co-presenter in a session, titled “Co-Marketing With Large Corporations.” The session explored the growth in college and corporate partnerships, examining how the Hemlock Semiconductor Group and APSU collaborated on public relations efforts when a new associate degree program in chemical engineering technology was established and a classroom facility built.

Michele Tyndall, manager of printing services and projects, also attended the conference.
