August 1, 2010 | Print This Post

Austin Peay State UniversityFor one evening in August, Austin Peay State University will be among others across the country participating in an event that emphasizes crime prevention information and techniques.

The APSU Department of Public Safety will sponsor National Night Out from 7:00pm-9:00pm, Tuesday, August 3rd on the lawn in front of the Dunn Center and the Intramural Field on the main campus. The event is open to the Clarksville-Montgomery County community.

“With school getting ready to start, this is a great time for parents and their children to learn about the community services available to them when they feel they might need it,” said Sgt. Elizabeth Genthner with Department of Public Safety at APSU. “This is an opportunity for local organizations to get their information to the citizens, and for citizens to get any information they need.”

National Night Out at APSU will feature several displays, including the Clarksville Fire Department ladder truck, and a Life Flight helicopter will be landing on Intramural Field. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office also will be represented.

Local organizations that will have informational tables and booths set up are the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA of Clarksville, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Legal Aid and Youth Villages.

The first 100 children will be fingerprinted and the information provided to the parents for free. There will be a bounce house for the children, games such as volleyball, horseshoes and cornhole and some giveaways for all school-age children.

Refreshments by Chartwells will be provided, and there also will be music and entertainment by Thea (pronounced Tia) Agnew, a local realtor and singer who was the 2009 Operation Rising Star representing Fort Campbell, KY, and opened for the Nashville Predators during the 2007-08 season. National retailer Target will be donating door prizes and 250 boxes of sidewalk chalk for children to use at the event. In addition, those attending will be able to meet the APSU football team and cheerleaders.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors to the Memorial Health Building, also known as Red Barn.
