Civil War 150th Commemoration Cannon Firing

April 7, 2010 | Print This Post

On April 6th 2010, at 5:30 pm, the Montgomery County Civil War 150 Commission held it’s first official event that marked the commemoration of the placement and firing of a Civil War cannon and gun carriage on the corner of the Montgomery County Courthouse Square.

The cannon is the first to be made in Montgomery County since the Civil War. It is a fully working replica of an 1847 six-pounder howtizer recently cast by the Clarksville Foundry. The cannon is being donated by the foundry and will be permanently installed at the Fort Defiance/Fort Bruce interpretive center when construction is completed in late 2010.

A video used to be embedded here but the service that it was hosted on has shut down.
