APSU CECA Announces 2018 Ovation Award winners and final program lineup

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN –  Austin Peay State University (APSU ) President Alisa White and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA, or “seek-ah”) invite the entire community to the 2018 Ovation Awards, a free, family-friendly celebration of the arts.

The 2018 Ovation Awards will take place on Sunday, April 8th, at 2:00pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on APSU’s campus. The 2018 Ovation Award winners will be honored, and, in an exciting new format, the event will feature performances and artwork by a variety of arts groups from the community and APSU.

Local Foundry Casts Replica Cannon for Clarksville Rotary’s 100th Anniversary

Clarksville FoundryClarksville, TN – Clarksville Foundry is one of the oldest continuously operating foundries in the United States. The foundry’s origins predate the Civil War, having first opened in 1847.

While the family owned and operated foundry today casts component parts for a variety of industries, it once manufactured cannons and munitions for the Confederate States of America (1861-1862).

Clarksville Foundry cast the barrel and carriage of the replica Model 1841 6-Pounder Field Gun entirely in-house, which required 47 castings and 23 additional fabricated components. Clarksville Rotary Club commissioned the cannon in honor of its 100th Anniversary this month, and the cannon will be unveiled Friday in a ceremony on the Montgomery County Courthouse grounds. Foust Family Tradition Continues at Multi-Generational Clarksville Foundry

Clarksville FoundryClarksville, TN – Clarksville Foundry, one of Clarksville, Tennessee’s most historic businesses – and among the oldest operating foundries in the United States – has been owned and operated by members of the Foust family since 1912. In fact, the origins of this durable Foundry date to 1847.

Recently, a fourth generation of the Foust family – William “Bill” Foust – made an important career move by choosing to join the family business and continue the Foust tradition. Bill is the son of current President and CEO Charles Foust Jr.

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – Hundred-year old patterns of wheels, squares, stars, and waves merge into beautiful assemblages of wood and steel. These, along side Mike Andrews’ more widely known works of art fill the Crouch gallery of the Customs House Museum on May 17th.

Artist Mike Andrews has been creating art for more than two decades out of limestone, wood, and metal. More recently, he has produced large, wall installations comprised of patterns belonging to the Clarksville Foundry.

Tennessee Crossroads to feature Clarksville Foundry May 10th
