Austin Peay State University History Students visit historic Fort Donelson Civil War battlefield

Clarksville, TN – If you can picture a nation as a living body with cities serving as vital organs and transportation paths such as roads, railways and rivers filling the roles of the arteries that provide life-sustaining blood to those major settlements, then it becomes easy to understand the significance of the Battle of Fort Donelson during the American Civil War.
Waged between February 11th-16th, 1862, the Union’s capture of the Confederate fort near the Tennessee-Kentucky border accomplished a number of important tasks for its army.

Clarksville Teacher Whitney Joyner chosen for Prestigious Overseas World War II Program

Washington, D.C. – Whitney Joyner of Northeast Middle School is one of only 18 middle and high school educators selected to participate in Understanding Sacrifice, a partnership between National History Day®, the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), and the National Cemetery Administration (NCA).
When the program kicks off in November 2016 every educator will select one American who is buried or memorialized at an ABMC or NCA cemetery in San Francisco, Honolulu, or Manila.
Participants will conduct in-depth research on the life of this Fallen Hero using local and national historical resources.

Exciting Lineup and Changes in Store for Roxy Regional Theatre’s SEASON 34

Clarksville, TN – The Roxy Regional Theatre is gearing up to celebrate 34 years of presenting live theatre in the heart of Historic Downtown Clarksville on the corner of Franklin and First. The Roxy has long been regarded as “the cornerstone of downtown re-development,” and SEASON 34 will see new productions and exciting changes to the programming and structure of the theatre.
Ryan Bowie, longtime company member and former Director of Fundraising and Development, will take the reins as the organization’s new Executive Director.
Austin Peay State University’s Barry Gresham wins national award at 2016 Festival of Media Arts

Clarksville, TN – Barry Gresham, Austin Peay State University instructor of communication, recently received a national award at the Broadcast Education Association’s annual convention in Las Vegas. Gresham won the Faculty Short Form Sports Video Category: Best of Competition for his video, “Reedy Sears – APSU Hall of Fame.”
Acuff Circle to honor longtime performer Marge Lillard at Jazz in June event

Clarksville, TN – Jazz in June, The Acuff Circle of Excellence’s annual celebration of the arts with jazz, food and wine, will be from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Friday, June 20th, at Beachaven Vineyards and Winery. The public is invited to attend.
At this event, longtime Clarksvillian Marge Lillard will be honored for her contributions on the stage as an actor and dancer. She’ll receive the Full Circle Award, presented annually to a living Tennessean who has had a consequential impact on arts and culture in Montgomery County over many years of direct involvement through innovative work, philanthropy or leadership. The recipient is selected by the Acuff Circle of Excellence Advisory Board.
Tribute to late educator Dr. Preston J. Hubbard to be held March 30th at Austin Peay

Clarksville, TN – A memorial to the life of former Austin Peay State University professor — and World War II hero — Dr. Preston J. Hubbard will take place March 30th at 5:00pm at the Preston Hubbard Veteran’s Colonnade on the University campus.
The event is open to the public, and all are invited to pay tribute to an educator who touched the lives of countless students, colleagues and friends.
