Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.
This weeks highlights include: Volunteers Needed for Youth Mentoring Program, A Taste of Creativity, Clarksville Sports Festival, Volunteers Needed for Riverfest 2013, and “Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race.
American Red Cross launches New App to Recruit Volunteers

Clarksville, TN – The American Red Cross today launched the Team Red Cross App, which allows people to sign up to help, get an overview on basic tasks and receive notifications about Red Cross disaster volunteer opportunities in their community.
“When people see an emergency happening in their community, they often want to help but may not know how,” said Julie Campos, Chapter Executive, Two Rivers Chapter. “The Team Red Cross App provides an easy and quick way for people to sign up to help the Red Cross and support their community.”

Clarksville Parks and Recreation needs Volunteer Mentors for Youth Program

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is looking for those wishing to volunteer as mentors!
Volunteer mentors are needed for the upcoming Dream Chasers Group Mentoring Program.
Mentors will be working with at-risk youth, ages 13-17 in a small group atmosphere. [Read more]

Clarksville No Kill event at Montgomery County Animal Control this Saturday

Saturday Event to Benefit Shelter Dogs and Cats
Clarksville, TN – Dozens of volunteers and local animal advocates have organized an outreach and fundraising event that will be held in the parking lot of Montgomery County Animal Control, 616 North Spring Street, this Saturday, June 15th between 10:00am-4:00pm.
Saturday’s event is inspired by a nationwide effort known as the National No Kill Movement, which challenges animal shelters, animal advocates and communities across the nation to do better. Per the organization’s website: The leading cause of deaths among healthy dogs and cats in the United States is due to killing in shelters.
Kenwood High School Students named ‘Volunteers of the Year’ for 2013 Rivers and Spires Festival

Clarksville, TN – The Rivers and Spires Festival is pleased to recognize Kenwood High School as the Clarksville-Montgomery County School with the most student volunteers working at the 2013 Festival.
The students were presented with a trophy and certificate recognizing their commitment to the community-driven event. The school boasted 34 volunteers this year, ten more than the second place school, with several of them coming from their JROTC program.
Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department holds First Annual Cornhole Tournament at Hilltop Super Market

Montgomery County, TN – On Saturday, May 11th, the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department held their First Annual Cornhole Tournament.
It began at 8:00am at Hilltop Super Market, located at 400 Highway 149, during Hilltop’s BBQ Cook-Off.

Clarksville, TN – The Rivers & Spires Festival is currently accepting applications for the Miss River Queen and Teen Pageants as well as applications for volunteers and vendors.
The 11th annual Rivers & Spires Festival will be held April 18th-20th, 2013 in Historic Downtown Clarksville. This event has five stages of entertainment with over 100 entertainers performing all three days.
