Clarksville Parks and Recreation reports Liberty Park Pond closed June 3rd-10th

Clarksville, TN – In order to provide a fun experience for participants in the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Youth Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 8th. We ask that the public refrain from using the pond at Liberty Park beginning at 6:00am on Monday, June 3rd through 2:00pm on Monday, June 10th.
Dunbar Cave’s Spring Fling Schedule Announced

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave have finalized the schedule for this year’s Spring Fling slated to take place rain or shine on Saturday, May 4th.
Come out and enjoy a day of free, family fun. A bird hikes with the Warioto Audubon Society, wild flower hike led by APSU botanist Rob Shepard and a trail hike led by Suva Batsin from our local chapter of the Tennessee Trails Association.

On the weekend of October 11th and 12th, the tradition continues with the 39th Annual Meeting of the Tennessee Entomological Society at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Ellington Agricultural Center in Nashville. [Read more]
Austin Peay University Students conduct important Research on the Bats at Dunbar Cave

Clarksville, TN – On a muggy evening in late June, several Austin Peay State University graduate and undergraduate students hiked up to the mouth of Dunbar Cave in the hopes of finding a few bats.
The group brought with them a large Harp trap, consisting of a metal frame inset with rows of thin fishing line, and three high-frequency microphones and computerized recording units. After setting up their equipment, they sat in the cool dark of the cave opening and waited.
TWRA’s Youth Fishing Rodeo Brings Love of the Outdoors to Clarksville’s Youth

Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) in partnership with the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation, Grandpa’s, Walmart, Boyles Bait, and the Healing outside of a Hospital (HOOAH) Program worked together to give the youth of Clarksville an opportunity to enjoy a day of free fishing in Liberty Park.
The annual Youth Fishing Rodeo is held on the second Saturday in June to coincides with Tennessee’s Free Fishing Day and 16 and under Free Fishing Week. “This is the 11th Year that we’ve joined together with the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation, and all of our sponsors to bring the outdoors to young kids who may be fishing for the very first time,” said Montgomery County Wildlife Officer Dale Grandstaff. “There are over 400 kids gathered around the fishing pond at Liberty Park to have a great time in the great outdoors!”

Clarksville’s Liberty Park opened Friday

Clarksville, TN – Liberty Park opened yesterday morning at dawn and Clarksvillians were ready and waiting for the opening of the park areas of the new Clarksville Marina.
Fishermen were the first on hand. They had been eying the pond for months looking forward for the chance to be one of the first anglers to try their luck there. By 10:00am around 20 anglers had staked out their positions around the banks.

Nashville, TN – The Annual Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and Clarksville Parks and Recreation Youth Fishing Rodeo will be held Saturday, June 9th, 2012 at the Liberty Park Pond in Clarksville Tennessee.
The 2012 Free Fishing Day in Tennessee is also Saturday, June 9th when anyone in the state may fish free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters. [Read more]
