Clarksville Parks and Recreation and TWRA’s Youth Fishing Rodeo set for Saturday, June 11th

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation and the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) will be hold the annual Youth Fishing Rodeo this Saturday, June 11th, 2016.
The fishing rodeo will be held at the Liberty Park pond from 7:00am to 9:00am. Hot Dogs and Drinks will be available.
Participants can pick up a form to pre-register at Wal-Mart or Grand Pa’s Outdoors prior to the event.

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, June 6th the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) along with the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department held the annual Youth Fishing Rodeo at Liberty Park. The event gives the youth of Clarksville an opportunity to enjoy a day of free fishing. This is the 14th year for the event.
“Saturday is free fishing day in the State of Tennessee. Here in Clarksville we team up with Clarksville Parks and Recreation to host a free fishing day event for youth 16 years of age and younger,” stated TWRA officer Jereme Odom.

Liberty Park Pond temporarily closes to prepare for Fishing Rodeo

Clarksville, TN – In order to provide a fun experience for participants in the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) Youth Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 6th, 2015 the Liberty Park pond will be closed to the public beginning at sunrise on Sunday, May 31st until sunrise on Sunday, June 7th.
The remainder of Liberty Park will be open to the public.

Clarksville, TN – In a tributary of Tennessee’s Duck River, there lives a small fish that seems to have mastered the art of seduction. Because the females of the species prefer strong fathers, males use small yellow knobs on their fins that look like eggs to lure potential mates.
“It will fool the female into thinking he has more eggs than he really does, and she’ll spawn with him,” Zac Wolf, an Austin Peay State University graduate student, said. “It’s been shown that females prefer larger nests, or at least males with larger nests.”

Friends of Dunbar Cave’s Spring Fling event to be held May 10th, 2014

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave have announced the schedule for this year’s Spring Fling event to be held (rain or shine) on May 10th, 2014. All activities begin at the Visitor’s Center and are free of charge. Snacks will be provided for a modest donation. Children must supervised by an adult.

Clarksville Youth Fishing Rodeo big hit with the Kids

Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) in partnership with the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation, Grandpa’s, Walmart, Boyles Bait, First Baptist Church, and Yellow Creek Baptist Church worked together to give the youth of Clarksville an opportunity to enjoy a day of free fishing in Liberty Park on Saturday.
The annual Youth Fishing Rodeo is held on the second Saturday in June to coincides with Tennessee’s Free Fishing Day and 16 and under Free Fishing Week. “This is the 12th year that we’ve joined together with the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation, and all of our sponsors to bring the outdoors to young kids who may be fishing for the very first time,” said Montgomery County Wildlife Officer Dale Grandstaff. This year, there were 380 kids gathered around the fishing pond at Liberty Park to have a great time in the great outdoors!

Nashville, TN – Tennessee’s annual Free Fishing Day is Saturday, June 8th when anyone may fish free without a license in the state’s public waters.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency provides the free day in hopes of increasing interest in fishing. The day allows anyone the opportunity to try this great outdoor sport, especially children. In addition, children ages 13-15 may fish without a license beginning on Free Fishing Day through the following Friday, June 14th.
