Clarksville, TN – The “Planters Bank Presents…” film series to show “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” this Sunday, August 20th, 2017 at the Roxy Regional Theatre at 2:00pm. Then on Monday, August 21th, there will be a special screening of “2001: A Space Odyssey” at 6:00pm to cap off the Total Solar Eclipse.
“Close Encounters of the Third Kind” is a classic sci-fi tale about ordinary people and their extraordinary meetings with extraterrestrials. After an encounter with U.F.O.s, a line worker feels undeniably drawn to an isolated area in the wilderness where something spectacular is about to happen.

Liberty Park will host film, vendors and fun
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Movies in the Park, the City of Clarksville’s free, outdoor movie series, continues on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 with the showing of “Space Jam” at Liberty Park’s amphitheater, 1188 Cumberland Drive.
Pre-show activities, coordinated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, will begin at 6:00pm.

Back at school, ‘Kindness is Cool’
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett have proclaimed August as “Kindness is Cool — Back to School Month.”
Durrett and Clarksville Mayor Pro Tem Valerie Guzman presented the proclamation Tuesday at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library as part of Clarksville Kindness Rocks project to promote random acts of kindness using art as a creative way to touch people.
Austin Peay State University hosting several events for Total Solar Eclipse

Clarksville, TN – On Monday, August 21st, 2017, the heavens—in the words of English poet Lavinia Greenlaw—will throw a “celestial dimmer switch” during the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse, and as excitement builds across the country for this cosmic spectacle, Austin Peay State University is hosting several events, including an official NASA viewing parties at the campus’ Fortera Stadium.
NASA to broadcast Total Solar Eclipse from Austin Peay State University Farm

Clarksville, TN – On Monday, August 21st, 2017, NASA will use Austin Peay State University’s Farm and Environmental Education Center as one of its official broadcast locations for the eclipse.
In addition to NASA’s broadcast, there will be several research and scientific efforts by multiple entities, including atmospheric, entomological and bovine research during the eclipse.

New art program lets kindness rock Clarksville
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville‘s children, along with a fair number of adults, are adding to the city’s public art inventory—one rock at a time.
And they are engaging in random acts of kindness as they offer others the joy of a chance rock discovery.
In a trend that is sweeping the nation, Clarksvillians are painting rocks—big rocks, little rocks, smooth rocks, backyard rocks—and hiding them around town for others to find, keep, re-hide, or substitute with a painted rock of their own.
Rita Arancibia, founder of Arts for Hearts, is harnessing this movement in that organization’s Clarksville Kindness Rocks project to promote random acts of kindness using art as a creative way to touch people.

This event is free to the public, but Private 15’x15′ VIP Lawn Space Packages are available for $75.00.
New Gallery at APSU launches inaugural exhibition

Austin Peay Speakers to Deliver Solar Eclipse Presentation at Public Library

Clarksville, TN – On Monday, August 7th, 2017, the public library will be celebrating the much anticipated August 21st total solar eclipse by hosting two guest speakers from Austin Peay State University to deliver presentations.
Dr. J Allyn Smith will be presenting for the children’s event at 2:00pm, and Dr. Jaime Taylor will be presenting at 5:30pm for the adults.

Clarksville, TN – As part of the ongoing PeayClipse lecture series, Austin Peay State University senior physics student Jacob Robertson will present a talk titled, “Total Solar Eclipse: Nature’s Stellar Coincidence.”
The talk will take place at 7:00pm, Saturday, August 19th, 2017 in Liberty Park, prior to the evening’s featured film, “Space Jam.”
