Chief Human Resources Officer Named for the Clarksville Montgomery County School System

Montgomery County, TN – Jeanine Chester has been named Chief Human Resources Officer for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System beginning in January. She will replace Bruce Jobe, who is retiring.

Mrs. Chester has served in several Human Resources roles within the school system since 2001. They include: Human Resources Director, Assistant Human Resources Director and Benefits Manager.

Winter Market this Friday

November 18th

Montgomery County, TN – The Winter Market will be held at Smith Trahern Mansion in Clarksville, TN each Friday from 9:30am until 1:30pm. The Winter Market will be open the Friday after Thanksgiving as well.

Everyone is having a lot of fun with the market vendors and each vendor brings special gifts to the day. New this week is a soap maker and a jewelry designer.

Charlie Koon elected President of the 2012 Class of Leadership Middle Tennessee

Murfreesboro, TN – Charlie Koon, Chief of Staff for the City of Clarksville, has been elected President of the 2012 Class of Leadership Middle Tennessee.

Koon has been committed to serving the area’s residents throughout his career. Before joining the Mayor’s office, he held several positions with Cumberland Bank & Trust and was also the owner of Mary’s Music. His community service includes the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, United Way, Riverfest Entertainment Committee and Leadership Clarksville.

Aspire Foundation Presents Clarksville-Montgomery County School System STEM Academy with Check

Clarksville, TN – At the November 8th Clarksville Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) Board meeting, Aspire Foundation Chairman, Terry Strange and Economic Development Council President and CEO, James Chavez presented the local school system with a $10,000 check to support the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program. The grant was provided through the privately funded Aspire Foundation.

“The Aspire Foundation has advocated for the adoption of the STEM curriculum throughout the school system,” said Strange. “Our goal is to promote STEM and the specialized opportunities that it presents for gifted and advanced students.” [Read more]

Volunteer Stars Nominations Needed

Montgomery County, TN – Nominations for the Fourth Annual Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards are now being accepted within Montgomery County. The awards will celebrate the efforts of volunteers who strive to improve their communities through service.

One youth and one adult will be selected in Montgomery County to receive this prestigious award. Nominees will be judged based on the community’s needs of the volunteer service performed, initiative taken to perform the service, creativity used to solve a community problem and impact of the volunteer service on the community. Ceremony to honor Joel Plummer planned

Montgomery County, TN – State Senator Tim Barnes has announced that Montgomery County officials will hold an unveiling ceremony for the Joel Plummer Memorial highway on Friday, November 4th, commemorating the life of a public servant who made Montgomery County his home and his life.

Plummer was born in Montromery County where he lived his entire life. After serving in the U.S Navy during the Korean War, he returned home and was appointed deputy sheriff at the age of 22. Joel Plummer was eventually elected Sheriff of Montgomery County, was Montgomery County Trustee, Montgomery County Executive (now County Mayor) and was Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Safety from 1975-1979. 12th Annual Halloween “Candy Buy Back” to support area charities in Clarksville-Montgomery County

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Dental Center (CDC) is holding its 12th annual “Candy Buy Back”. The doctors say the reasons are many, in addition to the fact that one never knows exactly what is in your child’s bag.”All that sugar hurts the child’s teeth and puts on body weight as well” says Dr. Edington.

The doctors at CDC are offering $1.00 per pound of candy, and they will match that dollar with another dollar to be donated to a Clarksville/Montgomery County charity.
