Local Walkers “Join the Movement” to Create a World Free of Multiple Sclerosis

National Multiple Sclerosis SocietyClarksville, TN – Have fun in the great outdoors and help create a world free of Multiple Sclerosis. Participate in the 2012 Walk MS event in Clarksville on Saturday, April 28th, and help the Mid South Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society raise funds for the nearly 9,000 residents living with MS throughout Tennessee.

The MS Walk will be held outside, rain or shine. Walkers will enjoy an event that features a walk at the Hilldale Church of Christ and a fun day with family and friends. Prior to May 31st, walkers will collect contributions from supportive local companies, family and friends. [Read more]

Clarksville awarded grants to help fund Smith-Trahern Mansion restoration plan

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Tennessee Historical Commission awarded the City of Clarksville a Historic Preservation Fund grant of $20,000 to prepare a plan for the restoration of the Smith-Trahern Mansion.

These funds represent sixty-percent of the project budget. In order to complete the project, a forty-percent match from local funds is required. Fundraising efforts by the City will continue, with some help already.

Clarksville Pediatric Dentistry achieves Green Certification

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – The latest business to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified is Clarksville Pediatric Dentistry, located at 2297 Rudolphtown Road. A few examples of their initiatives include increasing their recycling by 25 percent, adding all recyclable items to be recycled.

They have also reduced waste by cutting all paper notifications that were sent via mail by 75 percent and using email notifications instead. By reducing waste and increasing their recycling, their office is using 192 fewer garbage bags per month.

Army Veteran Hubert Thomas to be Honored by House of Heroes this week

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – House of Heroes, Inc., a community-focused 501(c)(3) program, is coming to Clarksville on April 4th and 5th, 2012, to honor Sergeant Major (Ret.) Hubert Thomas and his wife, Mary Elizabeth.

The House of Heroes program honors military and public safety veterans and/or their spouses by repairing and improving their homes at no cost. Since its inception in 1999, the program has repaired over 450 homes nationwide. The Thomas’ house will be the program’s first project in Tennessee. [Read more]

“I am very excited about this event. Women’s health specialists will be there to help women make their own health a priority. Studies show that women are often reluctant to take care of themselves because they make sure their family is healthy first. But, we also know that so many diseases that women face today, like heart disease, can be addressed if it’s caught early. Clarksville Police Department has Seven New Officers take Oath of Office

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department welcomed seven new officers to its ranks on March 1st, 2012. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan administered the Oath of Office to the new officers in a ceremony at City Hall.

The newly hired officers will attend the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, March 18th-May 25th, 2012.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan to participate on Veterans and Jobs Forum Tonight
