New investigative and war reporting class comes to Austin Peay Center at Fort Campbell

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Early one morning in 2007, journalist Willy Stern arrived at a palace formerly owned by Saddam Hussein to go on a friendly jog with retired Gen. David Petraeus, then-commander of U.S. troops in Iraq.

The general’s public affairs officer referred to it as a social run – three miles at a slow pace. Nothing to worry about, right?

“I can do that,” Stern recalled. “So I’m standing outside the palace at 0600 hours and 17 Olympic athletes walk out. I started to realize, hey, I’m being hazed.”

Hands On ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – “America Sings!” will be held Sunday, September 11th, 2011 at the Austin Peay University, Clement Auditorium from 12:00pm to 3:30pm.

Many of the performers have served in the military, come from military families, or volunteered their time playing for our troops both nationally and internationally. They are ALL donating their time and talents for this effort, which will be submitted to The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) for their “10th Anniversary Challenge”, allowing Clarksville to qualify for a grant to be used to support future 9/11 events and projects. Fort Campbell’s Super Saturday Air Show made the Screaming Eagles roar

101stFor many people the highlight of the Week of the Eagles has got to be the Super Saturday Air show powered by Tyson Foods. This extravaganza event was expected to draw a crowd of 65,000 people, but most likely far exceeded that.  Comprised of a series of simultaneous events including:

A Community Fair featuring local organizations that offer their services to soldiers and their families.

The Community Health Fair gave a people a quick medical checkup, and with the harsh sun and high temperatures the sound advice to keep hydrated.

“Band of Brothers” Regiment to honor fallen warriors

Fort Campbell, KY – The U.S. Army unit that includes the famous “Band of Brothers,” the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment, has announced a new monument to honor soldiers of the unit killed in service to their country. The 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association, a nonprofit veterans’ organization dedicated to the active duty soldiers and veterans of the 506th Infantry, is acting on behalf of the regiment to collect contributions in support of the memorial.

The granite monument will be funded totally by private contributions, according to COL John P. “Pete” Johnson, commanding officer of the 101st Airborne Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team at Fort Campbell,. A Nashville cement contractor, Glenn Goodwin of Roy Goodwin Contractors, is contributing all the materials and labor needed for the foundation of the monument. COL Johnson made the announcement as part of a ceremony welcoming the regiment home from a combat tour of duty in Afghanistan. [Read more]
