Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will hold its second annual Joint Juvenile Justice Conference on Saturday, April 21st in the Morgan University Center.
The conference will take place from 8:30am-4:30pm on the third floor of the MUC.
The purpose of the conference is to increase the awareness of issues, programs and resources available to youth, parents, teachers, college students, advocates, officers of the court and the public to help prevent juvenile delinquency. [Read more]

American Basketball Associations’ newest team; Nashville Soul, will participate in annual festival
Clarksville, TN — Nashville has the Titans, the Predators and now the Souls. The newest team to hit Tennessee; the Nashville Soul; will be at UrbanFest.

Clarksville Rallies Behind Youth

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville community accepted the challenge of assisting First Missionary Baptist Church and the LEAP Organization take youth on a trip to Washington DC. This trip provides the youth with an opportunity to journey through our past and see history in the making through an historical and relevant tour of the Capitol.
The students will be exposed to a myriad of activities such as performances at the National Theaters, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian, several memorials and monuments.

Clarksville, TN – The Hispanic Organization for Progress and Education will be holding a Job Seeker’s Workshop on September 24th at 4:00pm. The H.O.P.E. office is located at 410 Church Street.
Today’s economic situation has changed the way people go about searching, applying for, and obtaining a job. Now, the internet applications are the new way to apply for work. Resumes are needed for almost everything you apply for, and an email address is often needed to apply for the majority of the jobs. With all of these new developments, a job seeker needs to be better prepared for the mission.

H.O.P.E. to hold their annual Women’s Day Conference this Saturday

On Saturday from 10:00am till 4:00pm the Hispanic Organization for Progress & Education (H.O.P.E.) will be holding their 2010 Women’s Day Conference at the Montgomery County Civic Hall at Veterans Plaza (350 Pageant Lane).
The conference will provide a wide variety of information and activities for women including health screenings, Cooking and Home Decor tips, food samples, hand-made crafts, Satin Hands, Make-overs, a Clothes Closet, hourly prizes, and much more!
Valerie Guzman will be the Emcee for the day. Special guests include Mrs. Tennessee International Cydney Miller and Social Entreprenur April Boyed-Noronha will also be on hand.

Nonprofit organization and community center provide recreation and supplies for youth
On Saturday, July 24th at 12:00pm the L.E.A.P. Organization awarded April Ogburn with Scholarship for her outstanding performance in the LEAP Intern Program and being accepted into Lane College. Trophies were awarded to winners fo each bracket.
As a result to donations from LEAP and the community we were able to collect over 240 packs of paper and other items for the Back to School Bash. This event also gave our youth a positive outlet to fellowship and build teams in a safe and secure environment.
Nashville Artist comes to Clarksville to paint with the children

On June 5th Nashville Artist Jorge A. Yances came to Clarksville to work with the children at the Hispanic Organization for Progress & Education (H.O.P.E.) to create a mural for their first annual Create, Paint, and Express Yourself youth summer program. The mural was put on display at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library yesterday, and will remain there until the end of the month.
The purpose of this program is to give children another outlet to express themselves instead of getting into trouble through boredom. The art portion of program was funded in part by a grant from the Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council, along with sponsorships by AmeriChoice & Jerry’s Artarama.
