Clarksville, TN – December 28th, 2011, the LEAP Organization hosted the Reality Check Program at the Emmanuel Family Life Center and opened it for youth throughout the city who were unable to participate in their respective schools.

Clarksville, TN – In order to work as a professor at a college or university, a person typically needs to have some type of doctoral degree. If that same individual wanted to teach in a public school, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree would be required, though a master’s degree is often preferred.
But, if a position were to open up in a child care center, catering to infants and toddlers, the applicant would only need to be 18 years old and possess a high school diploma. According to research by Harris Cooper of Duke University, the average student loses at least a month’s worth of learning over the summer. Math skills are supposed to take a greater hit than other subjects. What can you do to help your child avoid the slippery slope?

Afghan President visits Fort Campbell

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Afghan President Hamid Karzai brought a message of thanks to Soldiers and their Families at Fort Campbell today, as the 101st Airborne Division continues to deploy to his country.
Karzai’s visit to the installation comes on the heels of a week of talks in Washington, D.C., with President Barack Obama. The two leaders used the time to help repair relations between Afghanistan and the U.S., after a year of rising tensions. [Read more]
From taxes to child abuse laws, county legislators back bills in General Assembly

Montgomery County ’s Legislative Delegation has taken an active stance in the early round of the 106th General Assembly. The four members of the delegation group have added their names to legislation being considered in the Tennessee General Assembly. Thus far the bill summary looks like this:
Rep. Phillip Johnson co-sponsored sixteen House Joint Resolutions, including HJR00014: a Sports Memorial recognizing the Ooltewah Lady Owls; HJR0015: Recognition Memorial recognizing Ron Campbell, both signed by the governor on February 19th.
HJR0023: Death Memorial honoring Staff Sgt Timothy H. Walker, and HJR0043: Recognition Memorial for The Leaf Chronicle, both signed by the governor on February 20th.
HJR0063: Recognition Memorial recognizing Rep. Barbara Copper for serving as Chair of the TN Black Caucus for the 105th General Assembly. Citizen Police Academy accepting registrations

The Clarksville Police Department is taking applications for the next Citizen Police Academy (CPA) class which runs from March 17 – June 9, 2009. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The CPA covers all facets of the Police Departments activities from administration to tactical operations. Citizens are given an opportunity to not only learn about Police Department functions, but are afforded an opportunity to participate in activities such as: police vehicle operations, firearms instruction, self-defense techniques, and use of force decision-making exercises.
