Clarksville, TN – Back by popular demand, the Clarksville Area YMCA is once again offering the small group, Boundaries. In this eight week group, we will read through the book Boundaries, written by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.
By understanding physical, mental, emotional and spiritual boundaries, you will learn when to say yes and how to say no to take control of your life. Journey to a New Beginning After a Loss

Former Marine, survivor of USS Indianapolis to speak next month at APSU

Clarksville, TN – A Clarksville resident who survived the tragic sinking of the USS Indianapolis in July 1945 will speak extensively about the tragedy he endured at sea during an appearance next month at Austin Peay State University.
Edgar Harrell will tell about the sinking of the heavy cruiser, the largest casualty at sea in the history of the U.S. Navy, at 5:00pm, Friday, October 21st in the Morgan University Center Ballroom. His talk, sponsored by the Student Veterans Organization at APSU, is free and open to the public. [Read more]
Journey to Freedom

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Area YMCA is once again offering Journey to Freedom. This small group is limited to 10 participants and meets weekly for an hour and a half.

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN participates in World Habitat Day 2011

Clarksville, TN – In recognition of World Habitat Day 2011, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN is planning to participate in the Habitat ReStore ‘ReCreate’ fall festival to address the need for decent housing around the world, including in Clarksville and Montgomery County.
The theme of World Habitat Day 2011 is “Housing cities after a disaster,” a serious and growing problem around the world. From Haiti and Japan to New Orleans and Memphis, urban areas face different and great challenges when responding to disasters. These dangers and challenges require effective and creative policies from governments and humanitarian groups around the world. [Read more]

Clarksville To Host 2012 Miss Tennessee USA Pageants This Week

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville will host 90 young women competing in the upcoming 2012 Miss Tennessee USA and Teen USA pageants.
Both events will take place at the Austin Peay State University Music and Mass Communications Building on October 7th and 8th, 2011. This will be Clarksville’s twelfth year hosting the pageants.
Miss Tennessee USA, Ashley Durham, and Miss Tennessee Teen USA, Kaitlin White, will be handing over their crowns at next weekend's pageant.
Habitat for Humanity ReStore Hosts First Annual ‘ReCreate’

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday October 8th, 2011, the Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery, TN ReStore will host its first annual ‘ReCreate’, a fall festival focusing on repurposed materials, particularly those found in the ReStore.
Local artists such as Shipley Potter, Dave Jenks, Gemini Dream Design, Doug Wilson, Heart Beaded Jewelry and more will have art for display and sale constructed of renewed and reused items.

APSU biology professor awarded state contract to study endangered plants

Clarksville, TN – The Braun’s rock-cress is a strange-looking little plant with star-shaped hairs covering its stems and leaves. It grows almost exclusively in the shade, usually around rock outcroppings in forests, and if you were to happen upon it, you might mistake it for a weed.
The odds of you finding a Braun’s rock-cress, however, are extremely rare. The peculiar plant is only found in two areas of the world, and in the mid-1990s, it was listed as a federally endangered species. Earlier this year, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation awarded APSU professor of biology Dr. Carol Baskauf a $10,000 contract to study the population genetics of the plant species, and her research may provide valuable information aiding efforts to protect this plant.
