Clarksville’s Civil War Story to Air on NPT2

Clarksville, TN – “Crossroads of Change, Clarksville, Tennessee 1861-1865,” a locally-produced video providing a perspective of the impact of the Civil War upon Clarksville and its inhabitants during the years 1861 to 1865, will air on Nashville Public Television’s alternate channel, NPT2, on Saturday, October 22nd at 8:30pm, and Sunday, October 23rd at 4:30pm.
The program is part of the Tennessee Channel, a four-hour block of programming featuring programs about the life of our state, which broadcasts simultaneously to all six public television networks across Tennessee.
Actor Keith McCoy portrays a member of the US Colored Troops in this scene from “Crossroads of Change, Clarksville, Tennessee 1861-1865.” The video was researched, written and filmed in Montgomery County and is based on local journals and diaries of the Civil War era.

Clarksville, TN – The Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County’s Wags to Witches Fur Ball Bash is coming up October 29th. So time is running out for you to submit your pet’s photo for the Mister and Miss Wags to Witches 2011 Pet Photo Contest. The sooner your pet is entered, the sooner people can start voting for them. The deadline for photo entries is Monday, October 24th, 2011.
Top 10 Finalists will receive a free professional pet portrait photo session with Picture Your Photo Photography and Art. Civil War Living History Encampment to be held at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission invites the public to join us at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, Saturday, October 22nd from 10:00am to 5:00pm, to experience the sights and sounds of a Civil War campsite and battlefield.
All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Visitors can explore the Center, which features several multi-media interpretive exhibits, observe living history stations located around the fort and watch as cannons are fired periodically. Don’t miss the chance to learn about the fascinating chain of events that unfolded on this very site during the Civil War and Reconstruction.

Roller Derby Season Finale Features Zombies and Commandos

Clarksville, TN – Just in time for the spooky season, Clarksville Roller Derby’s Red River Sirens present “Zombies vs. Commandos” on Saturday, October 22nd at Magic Wheels, 1671 Fort Campbell Boulevard. Doors open at 6:00pm and the action begins at 7:00pm.
Tickets are $7.00 at the door, with children aged 12 and younger admitted free with a paying adult. Attendees are invited to dress in costume.
The final event of the 2011 bout season, “Zombies vs Commandos” will consist of two 30-minute periods with an intermission. Halftime entertainment will include a children’s game led by The Nixies, the official “jeerleaders” for the Sirens, a kid’s costume parade and trick or treating with the Sirens. Clarksville, TN – Back by popular demand, America’s most famous literary icon comes to life upon the Roxy Regional Theatre stage for three performances only on Friday and Saturday, October 21st and 22nd.
Starring Ashton Crosby and adapted and directed by Cecilia Rubino, MARK TWAIN: Adventures in American Humor made its debut at New York’s Lincoln Center and played to sold-out houses at the Roxy in 2009.

APSU Health Professor, noted Book Author to lead free Workshop on How to Get Published

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Gregg Steinberg, professor of health and human performance at Austin Peay State University, will conduct a free seminar on writing a book proposal that sells.
The seminar will be from 4:00pm-5:00pm, Wednesday, October 26th in the Morgan University Center, Room 306. The event is open to the public.
Steinberg has sold three books to major publishing houses. He is the author of “Full Throttle: 122 Strategies to Supercharge Your Performance at Work,” “Mental Rules for Golf” and “Flying Lessons.”

APSU Art Exhibit to examine aesthetics of Urban Landscapes

Clarksville, TN – The images – crumbling brick walls, rusty chain link fences, broken vending machines – depict an urban landscape weathered by the repetition of life. The objects have decayed because of their ceaseless interaction with the ever-moving world around them.
Beginning November 7th, Clarksville residents will get to explore the intimacy of these images with a new photography exhibit, “The Urban Landscape: In and Out of the Margins,” which opens with a reception at 7:00pm in the Austin Peay State University Trahern Gallery. The exhibit, featuring works by such photographers as William Eggleston, Huger Foote, David Leonard and Vesna Pavlović, runs through November 23rd.

Comedy on the Cumberland announces the return of Brian Kiley

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville’s wildly popular stand up comedy series, Comedy on the Cumberland, has announced that Brian Kiley has been signed to return to Clarksville for the December show.
Held at the Roxy Regional Theater, Comedy on the Cumberland is a charity event, raising money for local organizations and providing a much needed “Night of Laughter” in Clarksville. Kiley had the audience in stitches during the July 2010 show, and promises to deliver again December 6th. Kiley is known for his good clean humor and “jabs” at his own life as a “fat man in a weight-watchers world.”
