Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence closes temporarily due to vandalism

Clarksville, TN – The Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, will be closed until further notice. This closure is due to vandalism that occurred early Friday morning. The vandals have been apprehended and the facility will re-open after damages have been repaired.

Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser, Saturday, open to all fans

Clarksville, TN – When Austin Peay State University and Murray State meet up Saturday, the Ohio Valley Conference’s most heated rivalry briefly will be put aside as fans unite in the fight against cancer.
In between the games, Wendy’s and Chartwells will be sponsoring the Coaches vs. Cancer Chili and Potato Bar, with all proceeds benefitting Coaches vs. Cancer. The Lady Govs host Murray State at 3:00pm, with the men’s game not set to tip off until 7:00pm Fans are invited to enjoy the pre-game meal while at the same time, joining up in the fight against cancer by making a donation to the American Cancer Society. Austin Peay State University Provost Lecture Series looks at open Textbooks in Digital World

Clarksville, TN – Within the last decade, there has been a movement toward open textbooks as the digital world makes sharing content not only simple but common sense.
Ellen Smyth, instructor of mathematics at Austin Peay State University, said although sharing content is only a click away, the question goes from “Why would we share?” to “Why would we not share?”
“And that is without any external pressure,” she said. “Leaders of the open education movement are now calling for external pressure – a handful of national policies that could change the face of education forever and, in my opinion, for the better.” [Read more]
Indoor Aquatic Center to extend “Dome Days” promotions

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce that the popular “Dome Days” promotion at the Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence will continue through February 29th!
The “Dome Days” promotion includes “Dollar Day” which enables all patrons to enjoy all-day access to the indoor pool for the price of $1.00 each Tuesday. The second half of the “Dome Days” promotion is “2-for-1 Day” in which patrons visiting the Indoor Aquatic Center on Thursdays will receive two all-day admissions for the price of one. [Read more]
Crisis 211 receives Donation from Daymar Institute

Clarksville, TN – Proceeds from the recent Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by Daymar Institute were given to Crisis 211. The annual event staged on the campus of Daymar Institute on December 10th, brought vendors from all across the area to sell their wares.
Admission to the popular event was $1.00 or a donation of 2 canned goods. Over $800.00 was collected and given to the Crisis 211 to help with their on-going mission.

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Fort Defiance would like to invite you to a Civil War Ball in support of the Fort Defiance Interpretive and Visitors Center, a beautiful facility located on the site of Fort Defiance’s earth works in Clarksville. It recently was opened in April of 2011. If you have not had the opportunity to visit there as yet, we encourage you to do so. It is truly an impressive facility.
The Civil War Ball will be held on January 14th from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
