2013 Rivers and Spires Festival wins Five Awards at International Festival Conference

Clarksville, TN – The 2013 Rivers & Spires Festival walked away from the 58th Annual International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) Convention with five more awards to add to its already impressive, and ever-growing, collection.
The 2013 IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards were announced on September 16th at the IFEA Convention & Expo in Pittsburgh, PA. Theresa Harrington, Executive Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), Doug Barber, Special Events Manager, and Jessica Goldberg, Director of Tourism, were all in attendance to accept the awards.

Clarksville’s Handmade Holidays vendor applications are now available

Clarksville, TN – The Wilma Rudolph Event Center, located at Liberty Park, is currently seeking craft vendors to participate in Handmade Holidays.
This year’s two-day event is scheduled to take place November 16th, 2013 from 10:00am to 6:00pm and November 17th, 2013 from noon to 5:00pm.
Austin Peay State University to recognize distinguished graduates during Alumni Award Brunch on October 26th

Clarksville, TN – This October, Austin Peay State University will honor seven distinguished graduates during its annual Alumni Awards Brunch.
The event, which is open to the public, begins at 10:30am on October 26th, in the Morgan University Center Ballroom.

Clarksville Park and Recreation announces Indoor Aquatic Center to open October 1st

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department invites you to enjoy the Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, this fall and winter!
The Indoor Aquatic Center opens its doors for the Indoor Season on Tuesday, October 1st. Enjoy a day of free admission, refreshments and free Wibit and Aqua Climb access on Opening Day from 6:30am to 12:00pm and 3:00pm until 8:00pm.

APSU moves up 18 spots on Best Colleges list

Clarksville, TN – The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2014 rankings were released September 10th, and Austin Peay State University jumped an astounding 18 spots this year, placing 69th in the Regional University South rankings.
That category includes schools from the southeastern United States that offer a full range of undergraduate programs, with some master’s programs but few doctoral programs. Last year, APSU ranked 87th in that category. [Read more]
Clarksville Young Professionals announces US Bank winner of Give A Kick Kickball Tournament

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Young Professionals (CYP) are pleased to announce US Bank as the winners of the fourth annual Give A Kick Kickball Tournament.
Held on Saturday, September 14th at the Swan Lake Sports Complex, the tournament had a great turnout of young professionals all ready to compete for a good cause.

Austin Peay State University Professor Dr. David Rands looks to combine History and Business

Clarksville, TN – For years, Dr. David Rands, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of history, has studied why certain people are attracted to certain cities. Specifically, he examined why Korean immigrants to Japan choose to live in either Osaka or Tokyo.
“I came up with this idea called ‘function-based spatiality’ – kind of a term I coined – where the city has several different functions within the local, regional, national and international spheres, and those functions act to either attract or repeal specific kinds of immigrants,” he said.

Clarksville, TN – The sixth season fall premiere of TLC’s primetime hit show Toddlers & Tiaras will have a hometown feel for the residents of Clarksville-Montgomery County, Tennessee.
The newest season of Toddlers & Tiaras, the series that launched the TV career of the infamous Honey Boo Boo, will include 13 one-hour long episodes that give a behind-the-scenes look at the competitive lives of these tiny beauty queens and their pageant-loving parents, who are all vying for the coveted sparkly crown.

Austin Peay State University History Honor Society wins fifth “Best Chapter of the Year” award

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this month, Dr. Minoa Uffelman was feeling a bit nervous. The Austin Peay State University associate professor of history was eager to find out if APSU’s Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) History Honor Society had won “Best Chapter of the Year” for an unprecedented fifth year in a row.
The National PAT headquarters usually sent her a congratulatory letter in August, but the month passed without any notification.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation announces Fright on Franklin October 26th

Clarksville, TN – The 5th Annual Fright on Franklin, presented by The City of Clarksville and Altra Federal Credit Union, will take place, Saturday, October 26th, beginning at 3:00pm in Downtown Clarksville.
