Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, March 18th, 2015 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.
The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

Austin Peay State University professor of biology Dr. Amy Thompson named to ASCP’s 40 Under 40

Clarksville, TN – Bitten by a spider while shaking out a towel on one sunny afternoon, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of biology Dr. Amy Thompson did the first logical thing after an encounter with an eight-legged pest – she buried her nose in a book.
“At first, I thought it was a bee sting, but then I noticed the spider scurrying off,” Thompson said. “So being an academic, I was like, ‘oh gosh, I have to find out more about this spider.’”

Revenge of the Nerds: a Pi Day Bout
Clarksville, TN – The ClarksVillain Roller are serving up more than their usual hard hits on the track this Saturday; its National Pi Day (3.14) so come on out for a slice of pie at the concession stand, and your chance to pie your favorite derby girl in the face during half time!
In their “Revenege of the Nerds” bout Saturday, March 14th the ClarkVillains will take on the West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers at the Clarksville Speedway.
Customs House Museum Presents In the Garden for its Annual Women’s History Month Exhibition

Clarksville, TN – Each March the Customs House Museum creates an invitational themed exhibit celebrating women artists. This year’s show, In the Garden, features the work of artists from across the state of Tennessee, all created in a variety of styles.

Indoor Aquatic Center’s March Homeschool Swim Day is coming soon

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s new event for homeschooled children at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, is typically held on the second Wednesday of each month.
However, due to CMCSS Spring Break, the March edition of Homeschool Swim Days will be held from 10:00am to noon on Wednesday, March 18th.

Clarksville’s Dr. Stephen Daugherty presents at the American Venous Forum

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Stephen Daugherty, the medical director of VeinCare Centers of Tennessee in Clarksville, Tennessee, presented his leading clinical experience treating pelvic venous congestion syndrome at the annual meeting of the American Venous Forum (AVF) on February 25th.
The American Venous Forum is an organization of physicians, mostly academic vascular surgeons, with interests in venous disorders. Dr. Daugherty was the first American to report a series of patients with pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS) due to compression of the veins of the pelvis two years ago when he previously reported at the AVF meeting.

Austin Peay’s 21st Annual Governors Bass Tournament set for May 16th

Clarksville, TN – As final remnants of last week’s snow and ice storm quickly melt away and temperatures rise into the 60s, it is a reminder the 21st annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament is just around the corner.
This year’s edition will be held Saturday, May 16th, at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing, Tennessee, State Park. Last season’s tourney drew 227 boats.

Clarksville, TN – The economic data were mixed, but the February Employment Report was stronger than expected. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 295,000 (±105,000), with a revision to January of -18,000. The BLS indicated that the payroll survey missed most of the bad weather that hit last month.
The household survey showed that 328,000 could not make it to work due to bad weather, which is about average (it was 601,000 in February 2014). Average weekly hours held steady (no weather impact).

Summer Workers Needed- Now Hiring Lifeguards and Cashiers

Clarksville, TN – In need of a summer job? The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is now hiring for part-time lifeguards and cashiers.
To become a lifeguard, participants must be at least 15 years of age and able to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes without the use of arms or hands and successfully complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds. [Read more]
