Call for Artwork Submissions for 2018 Arts & Heritage Cultural Calendar

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to artists who are interested in having their work featured in the tenth annual Cultural Calendar. Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight upcoming arts and heritage events.
Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. As in years past, calendars will be available through AHDC’s website, as well as in the Customs House Museum’s “Seasons” gift shop and other locations around town.
Field of Honor Tribute Flags Available for Order

Clarksville, TN – Individuals may order a 3′ x 5′ United States flag in honor, in memory or as a tribute to a loved one as part of Clarksville’s upcoming Welcome Home Veterans Celebration, September 13th-17th, 2017. All flags will be displayed in the Field of Honor – Veterans Tribute at Beachaven Vineyards and Winery, 1100 Dunlop Lane, September 14th-17th.

Clarksville Street Department seeks Stream Cleanup Helpers

Clarksville, TN – Volunteers are needed from 9:00amto 1:00pm Saturday, August 26th, 2017 for the Fletchers Fork Stream Cleanup.
The Clarksville Street Department is hosting the event to improve water quality by picking up trash and other debris littering the bank of Fletchers Fork.
Austin Peay history graduate student Katelynn DiStefano takes part in archeology dig in Peru

Clarksville, TN – Archeology may not be a career Austin Peay State University history graduate student Katelynn DiStefano is pursuing academically, but that did not stop the graduate assistant in the University’s Department of History and Philosophy from spending part of her summer searching for mummies along the northern coast of Peru.
DiStefano joined University of Alabama Ph.D. student Jenna Hurtubise, along with a small group of students and archeologists, in traveling to the South American country, where they continued Hurtubise’s work in excavating and analyzing the history of the Casma, an underexplored ancient Peruvian culture.

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is partnering with Chick-Fil-A to bring together members of the community and officers in an informal environment to learn more about each other in a relaxed one-on-one interaction.
Oftentimes, the majority of contact between the public and law enforcement are during emergencies or very emotional situations, which do not provide a good opportunity for relationship building.

Visitor Spending in Montgomery County Tops $211 Million in 2016

Clarksville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Tourist Development Commissioner Kevin Triplett today announced Tennessee tourism’s direct domestic and international travel expenditures reached an all-time high of $19.3 billion in 2016, up 4.7 percent or almost $1 billion, over 2015. Numbers for Montgomery County increased to $211 million, up 3.0 percent, or $6 million, over the prior year.
For the ninth consecutive year, Montgomery County has ranked 11th among Tennessee counties for tourism spending. Ninety-two of the state’s 95 counties saw gains in tourism spending from 2015 to 2016.

Austin Peay State University alumna Licciardi releases debut book of poetry, “Skin Splitting”

Clarksville, TN – Bryanna Licciardi, a 2011 Austin Peay State University alumna, once went on a boring date with infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
“Towards the end of my Master of Fine Arts program in Boston, I fell asleep one night watching a documentary about (Gacy),” Licciardi said. “Not your typical bedtime story, I know, but I have a horror hobby.

Clarksville, TN – Zone 3, the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts’ literary journal, welcomes a diverse group of writers, filmmakers and creative minds for its Fall 2017 Zone 3 Reading Series.
Steven Sherrill will travel to campus on September 19th, at 4:00pm to give a reading of his fiction.

Clarksville, TN – When John McConnell opened Clarksville Guns and Archery, he felt that Clarksville just didn’t have the type of store that appealed to him.
“When I went to purchase a gun for my wife, there wasn’t a store in the area that catered to the ‘new’ gun owner, and there was really a lack of customer service,” McConnell said. “Not everyone is a gun expert and new customers are who I want to cater to. I want them to become a responsible gun owner.”
In 2012, McConnell opened his business with one thing in mind and that was customer service. When you walk into his store on Golf Club Lane, you’re greeted by the staff immediately.
