Convention and Visitors Bureau announces New Board

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is pleased to announce their 2011-2012 Board of Directors.
Newly elected to the board is Carolyn Pierce and reappointed to the board is Geno Grubbs; both will serve a three year term. Steven Stroman is this year’s Chairman and Geno Grubbs was elected as the Chairman elect. [Read more]
APSU Students produce Monograph on City’s Public Art Pieces

Clarksville, TN – Throughout the city of Clarksville, a number of statues and other pieces commemorate the history of the local community, honor heroes and celebrate the spirit of the town.
There’s the statue of John Montgomery, for whom Montgomery County is named, located in front of City Hall, facing Strawberry Alley downtown. The legend of Wilma Rudolph, Clarksville’s most famous woman athlete who was the first female to win three gold medals in the Olympics in 1960 in Rome, Italy, is preserved in her classic crossing-the-finish-line pose at McGregor Park at the intersection of College Street and Riverside Drive. Humane Society Donates Pet Supplies to Tornado-Stricken Shelter

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Humane Society donated 1,042 lbs. of dog food, 1 large crate, 4 bails of straw, 4 partial rolls of fencing and 2 large bags of linens to local disaster relief volunteers, Hannah and Haly Baggett, who will transport the items to Tuscaloosa K9 Camp this weekend.
Kim McMillan sworn in as Clarksville Tennessee’s first female Mayor

Clarksville, TN – Before a standing room only crowd at the Roxy Regional Theatre yesterday afternoon, Mayor-elect Kim McMillan and six city council members were sworn in to serve the interests of the citizens of the City of Clarksville for the next two years. Lance Baker, the Clarksville City Attorney acted in the role of emcee for the ceremony. Judge Ross Hicks introduced Judge Robert W. Wedemeyer who then swore in the new Mayor.
Kim McMillan is the first woman elected to serve as the Mayor of the City of Clarksville.
Afterwards Mayor McMillan swore in the newly elected council members and then held a special called session of the Clarksville City council to nominate and elect Councilman Geno Grubbs as the Mayor Pro Tem. [Read more]
Clarksvillians gathered for annual Christmas Parade

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville gathered together to celebrate the holidays yesterday with the 51st Annual Clarksville Jaycees Christmas Parade. The streets were lined with people all trying to keep warm from the bitter wind and chill temperatures.
The Parade features area Businesses, Civic Groups, and Community Organizations. Each one competing in their category to the best in their division. The Divisions are Civic/Church (Churches, Community Organiations, Nonprofits, etc.); Corporate (City/County Government departments, Banks, Corporations, etc); Commercial (Small Businesses)
City Council special session called to submit revised charter to the state

The Clarksville City Council will meet in special session March 23 at 4 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 108 Public Square, to request the Tennessee legislature to approve changes to the Clarksville City Charter. This is the sole item on the agenda.
Local councilors and state legislators representing Clarksville have received communications from residents irked with the idea that the revisions were not openly presented to the public prior to the vote seeking state approval.

The Clarksville City Council will meet in special session on January 1 at 10 a.m. at City Council Chambers, 108 Public Square, to administered the oath of office to the city’s recently elected city council members and a city judge.
Mayor Johnny Piper will swear in the following: James Lewis, Ward 3; Wallace Redd, Ward 4; Candy C. Johnson, Ward 5; David Allen, Ward 8; Joel Wallace, Ward 9; and Jeff Burkhart, Ward 12. City Judge Charles W. Smith will also be sworn in. The election of a Mayor Pro Tem will follow. [Read more]
