APSU launches new Facebook page for News and Information

APSU staff members honored for continuous service, retirement or education

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several employees at Austin Peay State University were recognized Friday, July 22nd for their continuous years of service. A reception was held in the Morgan University Center ballroom to honor those employees.

Donna Liverett, administrative assistant in the APSU Department of Chemistry, was honored for her 40 years of service to APSU.
Employees with 25 years are Clifford Frederick, Cheryl Garrett, David Gleckler, Denise Hemingway, Michele Jones, Betty Leimer and Julia McGee.

APSU Public Relations office wins awards at TCPRA

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Office of Public Relations and Marketing at Austin Peay State University won three awards during the Tennessee College Public Relations Association spring conference and awards contest held May 18th-20th at Chattanooga State Community College.

TCPRA – an alliance of communicators across the state representing public and private colleges and universities, technical schools, technology centers and community colleges – awarded gold, silver and bronze distinctions in various writing, design, publication and photography categories. Markov named 2011 Hawkins Award Winner at APSU

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Dr. Sergei Markov, associate professor of biology, was named the recipient of Austin Peay State University’s prestigious Richard M. Hawkins Award during a ceremony on April 26th. The award is presented every spring in recognition of exceptional scholarly and creative work produced by a faculty member.

Markov has earned an international reputation in recent years for his groundbreaking biofuel research. Aside from being published in more than 70 research publications, he has been profiled by media outlets across the globe, and just last month, the industry trade publication Biodiesel Magazine wrote a feature on the work he is doing at Austin Peay. Dr. Trahern Receives TBR Philanthropy Award Because of Generosity to APSU

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Dr. Joseph B. Trahern Jr. was presented the 2011 Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor’s Award of Excellence in Philanthropy during the 53rd Annual Tower Club Dinner meeting at Austin Peay State University, held April 1st.

APSU President Tim Hall, who nominated Trahern for the award, said, “Though Dr. Trahern never taught at APSU, our institution has been fortunate enough to be the recipient of his extreme generosity. As a native of Clarksville, he understands the important role APSU plays in this community.”

APSU hosts 16th annual Bread and Words Reading on November 23rd

November 13, 2010

Clarksville, TN – To help usher in the Thanksgiving holiday, the Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature will host the 16th annual Bread and Words Benefit to raise public awareness of hunger in the local community.

The event will start with the serving of a simple meal of soup and bread at 6:00pm, Tuesday, November 23rd in the Morgan University Center Ballroom, followed by a 7:00pm reading. A donation of $5.00 for the Salvation Army is requested at the door.

Franks named 2010 Hawkins Award Winner at APSU

Austin Peay State University LogoDr. Jill Franks, professor of English, was named the recipient of Austin Peay State University’s prestigious Richard M. Hawkins Award during a ceremony last month. The award is presented every spring in recognition of exceptional scholarly and creative work produced by a faculty member.

Franks, one of the leading scholars of 20th century British and Irish studies, joined the APSU faculty in 1996 and has since published numerous articles, biographical and critical essays and reviews in highly regarded journals and books.

She recently served as the president of the D.H. Lawrence Society of North America and is associate editor of the prestigious D.H. Lawrence Review. Her position with this organization helped APSU’s Woodward Library become the recipient of the late Dr. James Cowan’s extensive D.H. Lawrence Collection. [Read more]
