APSU again designated as StormReady by National Weather Service

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville and Montgomery County are no strangers to severe weather, as flood, thunderstorm and tornado warnings are common occurrences in the lives of its citizens.
It is for just that reason that Austin Peay State University’s emergency team has consistently reacted quickly to alert the campus community to any potential danger. For instance, whenever tornado warnings are received, APSU sends a text and an email message to students, faculty and staff, and the outdoor public address system brings weather warnings to attention.

The All State, APSU’s student newspaper, takes home state, AP awards

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s student newspaper, The All State, was recently honored for its excellence on both the regional and state levels.
The All State earned a No. 4 in the South ranking on February 27th at the annual Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC), held February 27th-28th at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

CMCSS announces Administrative Appointments

Montgomery County, TN – Dr. Bryan Johnson, who is serving as director of high schools for CMCSS, has been named Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Johnson, who earned his doctorate from Trevecca Nazarene University, served as principal of Northwest High School for two years and was assistant principal of West Creek High School for two years.
Stacy Maley has been named assistant principal at West Creek Middle School.
APSU is joined by 26 tenure-track faculty

Clarksville, TN – A total of 26 new tenure-track faculty members have become part of the Austin Peay State University community, beginning with the Fall 2014 semester.
Dr. Kadi Bliss, assistant professor of health and human performance, earned her Ph.D. in health education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a member of the American Association of Health Education and the Society of Public Health Education. [Read more]
Customs House Museum to host Carvings, Castings, and Constructions by Mike Andrews

Clarksville, TN – Hundred-year old patterns of wheels, squares, stars, and waves merge into beautiful assemblages of wood and steel. These, along side Mike Andrews’ more widely known works of art fill the Crouch gallery of the Customs House Museum on May 17th.
Artist Mike Andrews has been creating art for more than two decades out of limestone, wood, and metal. More recently, he has produced large, wall installations comprised of patterns belonging to the Clarksville Foundry.

APSU makes impression at Tennessee Academy of Science’s Centennial Meeting

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this month, a group of Austin Peay State University students and faculty members traveled to Vanderbilt University and made an impressive showing at the Tennessee Academy of Science’s Centennial Meeting.
During that meeting, which celebrated the 100th gathering of the state’s top scientific and mathematical minds, several members of the APSU community were recognized for their outstanding work. In the math and computer science competition of the meeting, chaired by APSU associate professor of mathematics Dr. Ben Ntatin, APSU students placed first and second in oral presentations of their research. Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 in our new home at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public.

Hands on Clarksville and The Center for Nonprofit Management to hold Nonprofit Training Workshops

Clarksville, TN – Hands on Clarksville and the Nonprofit Partnership Network’s July meeting will include a special training opportunity offered by The Center for Nonprofit Managment (CNM). CNM is offering the training to Montgomery County and surrounding areas.
The two, 2 1/2 hour workshops will provide information on the basics of grant writing and community partnerships. The goal of the these workshops is to help the community better understand the grant process and pursue collaborations with local business partners during these challenging economic times. Heritage Bank Awards $26,000 in Scholarships to Area Students

Clarksville, TN – Heritage Bank has awarded 52 students at 30 area schools $500.00 scholarships. The scholarships were made possible by the 8 year old Heritage Bank Scholarship Fund. Since founding the fund, the bank has awarded college scholarships totaling $170,000 to 340 students selected from the various communities that Heritage Bank serves. This scholarship fund is one of the largest efforts made to enhance the educational endeavors for students of Western Kentucky and Tennessee.

“The All State” staff honored at SEJC conference

Members of Austin Peay State University’s student newspaper staff earned recognition at the 22nd annual Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC), held Feb. 12-14 at Belmont University in Nashville.
Three staff members of The All State accepted accolades at the conference. For work submitted prior to the conference, Managing Editor Patrick Armstrong, of Lebanon, earned honorable mention awards in the Best Newspaper Layout Designer and Best Press Photographer categories. Photo Editor Lois Jones, of Clarksville, won third place in the Best Press Photographer category. [Read more]
