APSU’s CECA announces 2018-2019 Tennessee Artist Fellow

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA) recently announce that Bryce McCloud, of Nashville Tennessee, is the 2018-19 recipient of the Tennessee Artist Fellowship.
The CECA Tennessee Artist Fellowship was created to celebrate contemporary art and to support the continued creative work of exceptional Tennessee artists.

Bryce McCloud received this year’s Tennessee Artist Fellowship from the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts.
2019 Polar Plunge raises over $10,000 for Special Olympics

Clarksville, TN – Dozens of brave souls signed up for this year’s Polar Plunge, which was held Saturday at Austin Peay State University’s Foy Fitness and Recreation Center Pool. Spectators enjoyed a very eclectic costume contest, followed by teams and individuals diving into the chilly water, all to support Tennessee Special Olympics.
‘Plungers’ who raised money for the cause were rewarded for their fund-raising efforts with post-plunge pizza. Some prizes were awarded for costume contest winners, as well as outstanding fund-raising achievement.

Members of the Clarksville Police Department led the charge at this year’s Polar Plunge. The event held Saturday at APSU’s Foy Pool raised more than $10,000 for Tennessee Special Olympics.

Clarksville, TN – Anticipation rippled through the Barkers Mill Elementary third, fourth and fifth graders as they witnessed Fern pondering what to name her piglet.
Some students giggled and leaned toward each other’s ears, whispering. Other students shifted forward in their seats at the Roxy Regional Theatre and whispered – a bit more loudly – at the stage.
APSU to hold annual Guitarfest, February 11th-13th

Clarksville, TN – This February, Austin Peay State University and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will present the annual APSU GuitarFest, featuring guest artist concerts and workshops.
The concerts, which are free and open to the public, will be at 7:30pm, February 11th-13th, in the APSU Music/Mass Communication Building’s Mabry Concert Hall.

Twenty-six-year-old Australian Joe Robinson, world-class virtuoso guitarist and singer/songwriter will perform on February 12th.
Fifty-two volunteers converge at Dunbar Cave State Park for native grasslands

Clarksville, TN – The Southeastern Grasslands Initiative (SGI) held its inaugural volunteer workday at Dunbar Cave State Park on January 27th, 2019.
The predicted winter weather conditions gave way to perfect conditions for working outside.

APSU to host one-man “Seven Samurai” movement-acting workshops

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Department of Theatre and Dance is thrilled to host Lecoq-trained actor, writer, director and teacher David Gaines.
Gaines will lead two physical-acting workshops on February 15th and 16th and perform an original one-man rendition of the Kurosawa epic “Seven Samurai” 7:00pm February 16th at the Margaret Fort Trahern Laboratory Theatre.

Students will be able to explore the campus and meet with faculty and students.

Clarksville, TN – On Thursday, February 7th, 2019 the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Department of Theatre and Dance will continue their 2018 – 2019 season with “In the Blood” by Suzan-Lori Parks.
The play contains mature subject matter and themes, including explicit language, violence and sexual content. This play is not recommended for children.

APSU hosting Industry Summit for Veterans wanting to open a Small Business

Clarksville, TN – This February, the Veteran Business Outreach Center, the Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC), the Austin Peay State University Division of External Affairs and the APSU Office of Career Services will join forces to help military-connected individuals interested in opening their own businesses.
From 9:00am to 3:00pm on February 22nd, the three entities will host the APSU Industry Summit for Veterans: Boots to Business Reboot at 416 College Street.
