Unity Day

Clarksville, TN – Come out tonight and celebrate Unity Day with the Clarksville Area Churches at 1st Assembly of God Church on June 4th 2011 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm.

Austin Peay State University athletics director and basketball coach Dave Loos, along with Maj. General John F. Campbell, the commanding general at Fort Campbell, and Pastor Wess Morgan, a contemporary recording artist, will receive the prestigious awards during the event along with several local pastors and non-profit organizations each of whom who strive to positively impact the Clarksville community.

Hosts Yolanda Stewart and Kevin Kennedy will return as the hosts for the 2011 Celebration of Unity Day that will be held at 1st Assembly of God Church located at 1186 Fort Campbell Blvd.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In its heyday, the Woodstock Plantation, where the famed advice-columnist Dorothy Dix was born and raised, was a sprawling 5,000-acre farm that stretched from Montgomery County on up into Todd County, KY. The Meriwethers, a prominent 19th century farming family, owned the enormous estate, and their influence lingers in the area with roads and neighborhoods still bearing their name.

“They’re a very important family in this area,” Christopher Burawa, executive director of the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, said.

APSU’s Mickey Fisher Memorial Golf Tournament is July 9th at Fort Campbell’s Cole Park

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – After having a successful inaugural event in 2010, the Mickey Fisher Memorial Golf Tournament will return this summer to raise money for scholarships.

The Mickey Fisher Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, July 9th at Cole Park at Fort Campbell, KY. The entry fee of $400.00 includes dinner, auction and scholarship presentation at 6:00pm, Friday, July 8th at the Bud Barn off Exit 19 on Interstate 24 and lunch from 12:00noon-1:00pm, Saturday at Cole Park. Dr. Dixie Dennis, dean of the College of Graduate Studies and associate provost of Grants and Sponsored Research, has had a productive academic year. In April 2011, she was one of about 600 health educators – from among approximately 70,000 health educators in the U.S. – who has obtained the Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) distinction. Team of Maurer-Pahmier-Haddon-Devine capture 14th Annual Ladies Golf tourney

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The team of Marcy Maurer, Paula Pahmier, Cinda Haddon and Linda Devine captured the First Flight of the 14th Annual Ladies Golf Tournament.

The quartet combined for a eight-under 64 in the four-person scramble sponsored by Austin Peay State University to raise awareness of women’s athletics. They slipped past the team of Margaret Jones, Jane Brake, Sharon Grimes and Nancy Howell, who shot a 65. The group of Betty Stanton, Jackie Jones, June Nicholson and Mary Lou Reynolds ended in third place with a six-under 66.

APSU Public Relations office wins awards at TCPRA

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Office of Public Relations and Marketing at Austin Peay State University won three awards during the Tennessee College Public Relations Association spring conference and awards contest held May 18th-20th at Chattanooga State Community College.

TCPRA – an alliance of communicators across the state representing public and private colleges and universities, technical schools, technology centers and community colleges – awarded gold, silver and bronze distinctions in various writing, design, publication and photography categories.
